Got my official recall notice

Recommended Posts

I got my second notice from GM saying that the new stainless cables are ready and that I needed to make an appointment with the dealer to have them replaced. Estimated labor hours was 20-30 minutes...

Guess I better call my dealer and have the work done.

I am also going tomorrow (if i get off work early) they said they had plenty and I didnt need an appt.

I tried to have them give me a set yesterday and let me replace them but that was a no go. They have to have the old ones to send back to gm

This recall doesn't apply to the 99's correct? does anyone know why? Is there a difference in the cables, or is GM just cheapin out? If it would be in my best interest I'll just buy the cables myself, gotta be cheaper than refinishing the tailgate if it drops!

my cables snapped on me a while back (with me sitting on it) and i bent the corner of the tailgate, down right by the passenger side hinge. i was out of warranty and it was before the recall was announced, so I didnt take it in, just bought some new straps. the tailgate is still functional and all that, but I was wondering if anyone had any luck getting gm to cover any problems caused by the tailgate straps breaking?

I have not received my second notice either. I was told by my dealer, they are starting with the 2000's and then going from there. If that is true we will be waiting awhile (have an 03 as well).

It did mention in the notice that the dealer would inspect and replace the hinge if necessary. I'd ask the dealer to look at the truck and the damage especially if you can produce a reciept that you had to buy new cables already... (in fact I might ask for a refund too!!!)
