GM extended warranty, best price??

Does anyone know the ins and outs of buying a Major Guard GM warranty? I know the $ is negociatable but is there a way to find out what the lowest price available is ? Are there any of our members that sell these or could get us better pricing?

I bought mine from Classic Chevy. There used to be a guy on this board named Blake (TXDMAX) who worked there but he changed jobs, so Don Kerstetter sold it to me. They had the best prices and offer the 12-18mo 0% financing as well which Black does not offer. I also think the service was better with Don as well. Black argued with me about the start date on new policies until he found out I was right... Give Don a call at 800-259-1200 and see what he can do for you.

call around to local dealerships - the price varies. any gm dealer can sell the warranty for any gm car, so dont be afraid to call the pontiac dealer in town for instance.

btw, i just found out that they changed the way they word the warranty. my gf is looking at used envoys, and i called for a quote on a 7yr/75k warranty. the price was over $4k! but, now the 7/75 starts AFTER the 3/36, so it really went to 10, 111k miles. the 3/45k (so 6 yrs or till 81k miles on the odometer) was $1350. much more reasonable...

call around to local dealerships - the price varies. any gm dealer can sell the warranty for any gm car, so dont be afraid to call the pontiac dealer in town for instance.

Where did you see the change in the wording? I just bought mine at the end of August and as far as I know they don't change them until November, but that one starts on the contract date and mileage.

Your's is still under the new pricing (less than 1 year from in service date and less than 12K miles) so you will save quite a bit of money off the used vehicle. I waited until almost the last moment (literally a week before the year after my in service date) and then bought one.

Problem is not all places take those aftermarket warranties or require you to pay first before getting your vehicle back and then you get reimbursed later... With a GMPP you can go to any GM dealership and get the work done and not have to pay more than your deductable, in my case $0.

You can buy a GMPP warranty anytime before your GM 3/36

warranty expires. The price varies depending on milage tho

i agree - my service guy told me that they had so many problems with aftermarket warranties that they make you pay up front so that you can fight it out with the warranty companies. there was no hassle at all with the gmpp - it was a great warranty for me...

Ok it must not be a GMPP then as the change did happen about a year ago (for "new vehicle warranties") and it was for it to take effect on the date and mileage of the contract instead of at 0 miles and the in service date. That is why I waited until the last minute to buy mine as a "new vehicle" so almost got an extra year...

That is what I heard too in fact more and more dealerships have signs saying that for aftermarket warranties you may have to pay up front. If my Allison tranny dies I don't want to have to come up with the $4Gs to replace it and then maybe get my money back months later... I also know GM will be around to honor the GMPP unlike some aftermarket companies that may not be there a year or two down the road.
