90K miles...

I have about 90K miles on my '00 Z71 5.3L X-cab, and I need to know what I need to start replacing(plugs, wires, shocks, etc.). What shocks are good? What plugs/wires to go with? I think my U-Joints are going out also. How long do the stock brakes last? Should I change the fuel pump also(it's been kind of loud lately)? The only maintenance I've had done on the truck is have the injection system flushed(to try to get rid of lifter noise, unsuccessful) and the transmission fluid changed, both around 75K miles. Any 4wheel-drive specific stuff that I should take care of(it's never been taken through the mud)? Another question, I run Quaker State 10w-30 in the truck...should I switch to synthetic, or will it cause problems? Thanks for the help.

Well you should have done brakes by now, and with 90k it is a little late to change to syn. If you change to syn now, the new oil will begin to clean out the system and cause leake in the seals. As far as the other stuff, check your owners manual and it will give you a complete list of what should be done and when.

I went with Bilstein HD shocks on my 99 a few years back. As for plug wires, Magnecors from Tbyrne(supporting vendor). I'm running regular NGK tr55 plugs now, but may go back to the stock AC platinums.

Now other items. You've done the tranny, so that's a plus. I'd change the front and rear diffs, as well as the transfer case. Flush the coolant as well. Most of these you can do yourself with minimal difficulty(I should know...I'm not exactly mechincally gifted). Have you replaced the fuel filter? That'd be one to do...and the pump if it's getting loud, though I've heard a lot of talk that some GM pumps are loud even when there's no problem. I'd rather play it safe myself...and have the silence.

This is not always true. I've had three different vehicles that I switched to full synthetic after 100K miles. They never leaked and never had any problems with seals.

I second that. I've changed it in every used vehicle I've had in the last 10yrs- no new leaks in any of them. Change it, and change the fuel filter & spark plugs. I wouldn't think the shocks would need replacing yet.

Thanks for the replies. My brakes don't feel like they need changing...they still work great in Houston traffic. I haven't replaced the fuel filter yet, I guess I'll add that to the list. I'll try synthetic when it's time to change the oil again.
