Powertrax Install

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to install a No-Slip Powertrax unit in my truck this week. Instructions are pretty straight forward...I just have one question. Is there anything other than the C-clips that hold the rear axles in place? In other words once I remove the 2 C-clips, will the axles slide out or do I have to take something else apart? I only have to slide the axles out a few inches, to remove the spider gears. Thanks for the help...

Well, since no-one else replied and it's been a week since you posted....

If you haven't already got'r dun yet, you are correct about the C-clips holding in your axles... they're semi-floating so pull your wheels and drums off, push the axles in after pulling the carrier cross-pin and the top spider gears and the c-clips should fall off the axle shafts and then you can pull them out of the way to drop the side gears. The directions are a breeze and if you already got it installed, I'd sure like to know how its workin out for ya~

I did the no-slip late last winter and I didn't run into any problems. I'm pretty happy with mine because of the cost and its "actively engaged" no spinnin out characteristic. It's great when going straight through tough spots but I have light springs and I get axle wrap pretty bad if I punish it. The worst thing I found was the side slip.... turning a loaded wagon on stone or dirt will cause the back end to squirm over because the rear is too light.

Break it in and take it muddin~ I have a 2wd and i'm curious to know if it works good while in 4wd.

No loctite Just snug it down. i used a 1/4 inch ratchet. i would be concerned if you loctite it may not come out with out snapping if you should ever have to remove it. The install was a quick and painless. The hardest part was gettting the fill plug out to refill the diff.

sorry for the delay guys...the install went pretty smooth. I had to unbolt the calipers to get the rotors off. I used loctite on the pinion bolt...since it was put on that way from the factory. Big improvement from the open diff...thanks for the info.
