The standard Vortec 5300 V8 SFI engine in the Avalanche 1500 has 285 horsepower @ 5200 rpm and 325 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm.

Silverado

Vortec 5300 V8 SFI Engine (more>)

285 horsepower @ 5200 rpm

325 lb.-ft. of torque @ 4000 rpm

Maybe the article was using the numbers for the 4.8L V8, which GM offers as a smaller V8 engine option for the Silverado.  The 270hp sounds right, but I don't know where the 315 torque rating comes from??

270 hp was from the 99 trucks.  In 2000 the 5.3 went up to 285hp

I know I've seen this posted somewhere else ....but what did they change from '99 - '00 ?  To get an extra 15 hp.

They used the Cam from the 6.0 in the 5.3 to get the difference.
