Steering wheel controls

JTH7186 asked me for the part number so he could order the correct coil to help in activating his potential (D.I.C.) steering wheel controls for his future (i believe) 05 GM pickup. I told him there were two coils offered in 04 as there where two systems, one with the passenger side air bag shut off and the other without ie: HD models, tahoes and suburbans. Well for 05 there isn't a shut off mechanism too my knowledge. Does anyone know if the coil for the steering wheel column has been reduced to one part number. There are a lot of you out there that know a heck of a lot more than I and thanks to all of you I have steering wheel controls that now work.

Wow, talk about service! Thanks for the info, and thanks to any who can contribute more to this discussion. It sure would suck to special order the wrong part and get stuck with it.

I believe there are different coils

 

One has the dual stage air bag plugs (1500, Tahoe, Yukon etc...)

the other has a single stage air bag plug (2500 HD, 3500)

 

The way to tell which one you need is the number of plugs that go to your air bag. (single stage =1 , dual stage =2)

 

The parts have been reduced to the 2 different coild only. There is a plug for quadrasteer on all the coils, but if you don't need it you just tuck it away.

While we're on the subject, does anyone know if the steering wheels have changed since 2003? If my understanding is correct, 1500, 2500 and 3500 all use the same steering wheels from 2003 - 2005?

 

lch0 still has me questioning whether GM has changed the coil for 05 because of the shutoff changes in airbag switches (i.e. do they now use only one coil)?
