Return of Camaro

I heard GM is going to use the Zeta architecture (Pontiac GTO) to create a new Camaro and possible help revive Buickwith the Grand National.

Chevy will be powered by the 6.0-liter V8 and the Buick will get that or a twin-turbo V6 that will offer more than 400 horsepower.

I hope they are "gotta have" products and sell as good as the 300C. Can't wait to see em.

I hope that they are better looking than the GTO. They need to have some retro styling similar to the new Mustang. I'm a Chevy guy to the core, but the new 'Stang looks cool!

I Think They Should Bring The Grand National Back... I Would Sell Everything And Buy One!! They Were Sweet Back Then And Will Be Sweet Now.. BUT As For The Powerplant They Need To Drop A LS2 In That Bad Mofo!!

I agree with TahoeMike, the new Mustang looks awesome, it is probably the only Ford I would consider buying.

I was disspointed with the looks of the GTO, GM had an opportunity to revive a true beast from the past, and they brought it back as a boring ricer look-alike :sigh:

I hope they do better with the Camaro and Grand Nat'l, and yes, a retro look on the Camaro would bring back the rivalry between it and the new Stang!

A few more thoughts about the new Camaro:

Must have a retro look, bring back the RS headlight covers!

The most expensive version should be about $30K. (That's where the 'Stang is)

Let me order one with a big engine and nothing else if that's what I want. No power windows/locks or dual side HVAC controls, Off-Star, etc.

Solid rear axle, (a must probably if it's under $30K)

I read about the Camaro's return a couple weeks ago and it think its great, it will give Chuck from Horsepower TV a good reason to shut up Joe and his bragging of his mustangs.

You guys complaining about the "style" of the current GTO, did you know that if they did what you guys wanted, the car would've never been brought here and the chances that more RWD performance coupes and sedans being brought here and eventually manufacturered here ('07) would be very slim.

Thanks to Bob Lutz getting the GTO over here as soon as he did with some minor changes from the Monaro, opened the door to Holden's toy box.

With that said, I LOVE my GTO! I didn't want something with flared nostrils, big wings, tacked on ground cladding, etc, etc. I wanted smooth, curvacious, smartly styled car with 99% of the performance of my Camaro and that's EXACTLY what the GTO is.

Some of you only remember the late 60's/early 70's when GTO's were competition orange, had hood tachs, gaudy "Judge" decals strewn all over the car, and also came with a performance inspiring, emissions laden 400 cube snore motor. If GM "styled" the car the way you would've liked it, why not bring back the snoozer motor too! Would you guys be happy then? Or how about a nice 1974 GTO that shared itself with the Nova. Oh, yea, I want my 2004 looking like that! :D

You forget, the original '64's & '65's were plain jane, commuter car Tempest/Le Man's! They looked like every other Pontiac at the time and had virtually no style and were bland compared to the Caddy's and Buick's and Chrysler's of the time. But those were the ones that started a legend and were actually quicker than their later counterparts with their Tri-powered 389. Funny how history repeats itself.

Sorry, 40 years has passed, retro styling is and will be a short lived fad, I don't want my muscle car being a "fad" thank you!

:D The current GTO is exactly what the original was: badazz performance in a plain wrapper. As for the Camaro/Grand National, GM will have to do a great looking, high performance 4 seat coupe at a low price to have any hope of getting market share back from Ferd :D

Yea...I totally dig the GTOs, and 05s with the split dual exhaust looks great.

Don't look for Camaro to come back. Its a shame it had to go, but us 01-02 Z28 owners don't really wanna see it back. It'll be nice when our 01' tripple black 6-speed is worth into the 30k range in 10 years.

I'm going to have to disagree with you totally! At the very least, they could've used all their college education and their imaginations to design a nice car that doesn't resemble the Bonneville or Grand Prix. They should've gotten John Moss to do some brain storming with them. I don't know about you, but I had a '69 Goat that DIDN'T have all the gawdy Judge badging and I liked it that way. As far as the "400 cube snore motor" that you remember is not the one I remember. Especially mated to an M-22. When Mr. Moss brought back the Impala SS, he took the Caprice foundation and built nicely upon that. Leave it to GM to kill something good, especially after the year they finally got it right as far as the gauge cluster and shifter were concerned. I don't want at fad either, but I would like some imagination. All I'm saying is that if you're going to do something, in this case, bring back a legend, then make sure you do a good job of paying respect to that legend and don't do it half-assed.
