Finally lifted

Worked on installing the lift kit. 12hrs to do by myself. Not too bad but I am dog tired. I was planning on install pics but never really got around to it. I will go out in the sunlight tomorrow and get some pics. It looks wicked or as my honey says "thats pretty" . Pics at 11.

Nothing like a woman immascualting the truck. Mine said my old truck was cute. It never looked cute to me

Did you upgrade to the latest Predator Firmware? If so, have you played with the settings for Torque Management and Timing Advance?

The ride seems great. A little stiffer of course. I need an alignment so I have only driven it 8 blck to the house and around the neighborhood. Tires look great. Ride is great, zero noise.

 

As for the programmer. Yes mine has the new update. And yes I have adjusted everything. I presently have tq management on. With the big tires and weak trans I figure it is a good thing. (I still have to install my tranny cooler). I adjusted everything(timing and fuel) to the max. shift pressure maxed quickness maxed. I had to back down the pressure on tow/haul cause it hit hard. On predators web site they recomend leaving tq managment on due to shift "feel". I did'nt notice any diff. I did notice I was drivin the heck out of my truck. After my girlfriend drove it with the tq off she said "whatever you did I like it" It was shifting a little softer, not that it was shifting hard (thats what tow/haul is for) just firm. So I went out and turned the tq off. :devil: I realy don't run this truck that hard so I rarely see above 4500 rpm where tq has the most effect. . I will check the difference when I hook a trailer.

Very nice James! :seeya: Looks great! Now you've got me thinking that I want to lift up my truck! Guess you ran over the 5-6 hour mark. I didn't know you were gonna be installing it alone. Otherwise, I wouldn't have thought it could be done in 5-6 hours. But you got it in, that's all that matters.

I spoke with Cole and have been emailing Johan(both at Predator).

We're hoping a tune for the new 05 motor will be available by this Friday. Can't

wait for that. :)

Every 6" lift I have installed or helped install has taken 10-14 hours.

Thanks guy's drove it a little more last night. Pulled the sand bags out to get the true ride experince. It is better than stock in my opinion. The larger tires and wheels coupled with the dual shock is not to stiff.

 

Elwood---- I went with the Procomp kit for a couple of reasons. I liked the fact that the upper and lower control arms along with the diff was dropped the same amount(6"). Resulting in stock axle angles and still having 6" lift. The track width wasn't widened and I did'nt have to use spacers on the axles. I then cranked the torsion bars up for a total of 7 1/2 to 8" total lift and still have very acceptable cv angles. The nbs Pro comp kit is a very good kit. I believe I would have been happy with all I cosidered. The RCD was my other choice, but I recieved the dual shock kit plus 6 resevoir shocks for the same price as the RCD.

That black chevy you have pictured... is that your old truck? That thing is awesome. If you could send me some pics and info such as what kind of lift and wheels, what all u had done to it etc, I would appreciate it... Thanks man

Thanks for the info. Right now RCD is my top choice, but I knew very little about Pro Comp. What you told me, may have just changed my mind.

 

Since you are now an "experienced installer", you would probly love to do another one, wouldn't you?? I can fill my bed with beer and hope to get the install done before we run out of beer??? :seeya:

 

 

 

 

 

Don't worry, convincing the wife a lift is a "good place to put money" is like trying to convince her that the sun rose in the west this morning. This will have to be one of those things that I just do and stick to "I just made a 'management decision' and there is no turning back now." statement and weather the storm!! :)

    • Thanks; I looked there a few minutes, and I think I can find something. I really never looked there, as I thought it was stuff like PTO/aftermarket bodies/accessories like snow plows.
    • This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.  
    • 2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.  
    • Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉
