gandolphxx Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 Has anyone found the magic solution to removing or modifying the speed limiter on the '02 8.1L Avalanche. All suggestions welcome - thanks.
Shaners Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 The hypertech programmer will allow you to change the speed limiter.
JohnC Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 Then get tires that are rated above 100mph. Just a suggestion.
LarryE Posted January 21, 2002 Author Posted January 21, 2002 most of the 17" tires that comes on the avy's are rated for 120
xrayspex Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 I guess it's not necessary for me....I got a speeding ticket tonight coming back for cleveland boat show......wah!!! dang this smooth horsepower!!
gandolphxx Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 Thanks all - I guess the question should be - has anyone actually done it on the AV 2500 - and with what?
99silveradoz71 Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 I guess it's not necessary for me....I got a speeding ticket tonight coming back for cleveland boat show......wah!!! dang this smooth horsepower!! Where are you at in NE OH...I'm from N. Olmsted. Who tagged you, Brookpark?
DigUout Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 Jet Chips has what they call a SCU - Speed Control Unit. It removes the top speed limiter and allows you to reprogram the speedo for larger tires. It's about $169.99 compared to $320+ for a HPP 3. Hadn't tried it, but its on my wish list -
jst4f Posted January 21, 2002 Posted January 21, 2002 When I got the Z71 package on my AV, the wheel size was increased from 16 in rims to 17 in rims without any change in the tire size or aspect ratio. This could change the speed by ~3%. Did the Chevy change or adjust the chip for the Z71 packages? If so, can it be changed by others including the top speed limit?
gandolphxx Posted January 22, 2002 Posted January 22, 2002 The dealer can adjust for small tire changes - did min from 245/75/16 -> 265/75/16 - about 1/2 service charge ~ $50 I think policy prohibits them from upping the speed limiter - has to be done with an ECM or tranny mod. BTW - has anyone used the Jet Performance JET SCU 2000?
