Idle Duramax

I recently bought a 2002 HD2500 with the duramax/allison.

When it's idleing it sounds not so good...

To me it sounds like the belt is worn or not adjusted right. I had it checked at the dealer. I wanted to purchase a new belt. He told me not to waste my money that they all do it..Do they??? I kind of doubt it.

As the tech is going to tell you, it's hard to diagnose noises over the pc. Perhaps a little more info on what it's sounding like, etc might help him steer you toward some suggestions.

Belt noise is not normal. THe duramax is actually pretty quiet as diesels go.

 

Have seen some problems with the various idler pulleys and tensioner. If you spray some belt lube on the belt and the noise changes, it might be the belt. If there's no change whatsoever, it's probably not the belt itself.
