Just wondering how many 99-02 fullsize ext cab 8ft's

are out there.

I dont seem to see very many around !

any one have one here ?

getting ready to pick one up!

There's a guy here on base that drives one. I'm not sure what year though. It's the only one i remember seeing in person.

It seems that most ex-cabs are short beds... Why??? Probably because they are "dad's" reason not to buy a big SUV. I doubt they ever haul much, and usually get "dad" to work and back. Plus an excab long bed is a big truck!!! It is actually 8" longer than my crewcab shortbed...

Depends on if you are talking half ton or a larger truck. I never see any half tons with the full eight foot bed, but almost every three quarter ton truck in these parts has a full bed, no matter what cab config.

i agree, most ext. cabs w/8' bed are 3/4 ton. my '00 is a

1/2 ton though and i ordered it that way cause i like the

ride for one, and since i only use it for carrying my

corian tops from the valley to the coast, it is more than

enough truck. my '01 is a shortbed though and there is a

difference when tooling around in it around town. on the

freeway though, i'll give the longbed credit for a smoother

ride. never use to like the longbed version in the C/K

years. but since chevy extended the new cab and gave them a

bigger rear window, the longbed versions don't stand out as

much.

I've got one and I love it.

My only regret is that the crew cab wasn't available when I got mine.

According to GM, you can never, EVER, have too much truck.

I've got mine w/ the 6.5' bed, why, simply because I think that the long bed/extended cabs look too long to me, I rarely carry stuff in the back that long, they are nearly impossible to find, and I have enough problems parking my truck in this city full of cars w/o the extra foot and a half. But, really, I think the only long beds I've seen are the two reg. cab work trucks we've got and on the 3/4 and one ton trucks. Other than that I've only seen, probably, 2 or 3 long bed/ext cab 1/2 ton pickups. They're just isn't as many sold as the short beds.

Remember the good ole days:

Chevy had a LWB and a SWB platform and that was about it.

Back then, the single cab LWB was pretty much the norm and the shorty was less popular.

Today we get to pick from the:

Single Cab Short Bed

Single Cab Long Bed

Ext Cab Short Bed

Ext Cab Long Bed

Crew Cab Short Bed

Crew Cab Long Bed

I suspect that the single cab long bed and ext cab short bed share the same wheelbase. I would also suspect that the Crew Cab Short Bed and the Ext Cab Long Bed share the same wheelbase. I am not for certain.

Don't yall agree that the longer the truck is, the better it seems to ride? I think it makes a difference.

The longer trucks are less popular with those of us who really don't rely on the bed capacity. Heck, right now the only thing in the bed of my truck is a shovel, a rake and about a dozen empty beer cans. I sure do like how my ex cab short bed handles and parks. It is a heck of an improvement over my "once and never again" experiment with a 99 Dodge QC.

Your theory on the long bed/reg cab being as long as the short bed/ext cab seems correct. When I park next to the long bed 3/4ton (non-HD) work trucks here at work both our trucks look be the same length. I suppose I could just check chevy's website to see if this hypothesis of yours is correct.

Not so. The CC SB is actually shorter then an EC LB, and a RC LB is shorter than a EC SB.

The longer the wheelbase the better the ride gets. Our truck rides nicer than any of our cars do, and its a three quarter ton pickup! Since I don't live in the city I could drive a semi around since length doesn't have much affect on me at all. Everytime I take it into town I never have trouble parking in normal spots. Parallel parking is a different story if I had to do that, but I think I've only parked that way a total of three times in my life.
