Supposedly they are one of the best, but you can find just as good of quality products such as Mobil-1 for much less $$$

My family has used amsoil motor oil for many years with absolutely no problems. I recently started using it in my tahoe. Using their preferred customer membership online it doesn't cost that much more then the others. I have used allot of mobil 1 with no problems also.

I think they are both great oils. I always preffered amsoil because I did extended drain intervals and until recently Amsoil was the only company that would stand behind the extended drain intervals. No Mobil-1 has jumped on board and supports the extended life qualities in their oils.

Change filters every 7.5k and oil at 15k.

With M1 I changed oil + filter at 7.5k

Can't say that I have seen a significant difference between the two.

I'm not sure if Amsoil meets any of GM's requirements. I think their synthetic oil standard is 4718M and their conventional oil requirement is 6094M. GM uses Mobil 1 as factory fill for quite a variety of their products (Corvette, Cadillacs, and Cobalt SS to name a few). That is enough of a reason for me to stick to the Mobil 1.

Actually YEARS ago when Mobil 1 first came out they were advertising 25000 mile oil changes. Guess they figured out that they wouldn't sell as much oil with that recommendation.

Your right,Amsoil is NOT on GM's recommended oil list

Posted

not trying to sound rude or disrespectful but so what if Amsoil is not on GMs recomendation list? It'll work just fine. I hope some of you on here realize that many of the dealerships advertise useing GM Goodwrench oil but in many cases its just standard Pensoil or some other cheapie brand 10W30/5W30. It is that way at many of the dealerships here.

Well it might matter that its not on the list,Because if a dealer wanted to they could void the warrenty if they find out your using an oil thats not on the list.

I know they can do this because we did it here a few years back when a guy was running some "cheapie" oil and it sluged up his engine,GM rep.came in and sent the oil out and it came back as some "junk" oil that didn't have the recommended API grades in the starburst symbol,It didn't even have the starburst symbol! :banghead:

Now that would be extreme and in most cases dealers do not check what kind of oil your running, but they could if they wanted to.

I'm not familar with Amsoil so I don't want to bad mouth it and I know a few guys on here use it and have good luck with it,and don't know if Amsoil has the starburst symbol,Maybe one of the guys on here that use it can tell us,If it does OK,but if not,I wouldn't use it!

And GM Goodwrench oil is not made by GM,It is made by Mobil.(Or at least last time I checked,At one time Texaco was supposed to make GM's oil but I don't know if thats happened yet.)

I've used Amsoil in 2 strokes for years. I've seen the inside of the motors I've run it in and saw a significant difference in piston/ring/cylinder life.

That said I've never taken a large 4 stroke motor apart that I've run it in so I have no idea if the lubrication is better.

So far in the 5 years I have been an Amsoil Dealer I have not had any complaints.

Amsoil has reblended its gear oil line and has just now added a new line of Marine spec 4 cycle oil. The 4 cycle marine market has increased big time in the past few years. Their new oil is NMMA (National Marrine Manufactureres Association) certified It exceeds the NMMA "FC-W" (Four Cycle-Water) specification requirements. It is available in 10w-30 and 10w-40 weights.

Amsoil does have the API Star burst on their XL-7500 line of oils.

I have talked to various individuals that run the gear oil in their circle track cars and really like it.
