When I last changed oil she got 6 qts. of 10-30 Valvoline, You guys think it would be better to use 5-30 now that winter is moving in on us ? Here in Pa. we can get pretty cold here on top the mountain.

Not a bad idea. I switch to 5-30 in the winter also. Here in MN it gets mighty cold, and the way this thing knocks sometimes, I feel better with 5-30 in there.

Thanks what I run here in Alaska.  Locals say last year was a mild winter, but still got below 0 a few times.  Wifes car didn't need a core heater, I just ran 5-30 in it.  Going to put he 5-30 in my truck next oil chang, end of November.

I always switch over to 5w-30 in the fall.  My last change, about 1K ago, I switched to Mobil 1.  With the extreme temp changes coming I'm interested to see if I notice any changes -

Here in Missouri, I use 10W-30 Mobil 1 year round.  We rarely see sub zero temperatures in the winter -- and the K 1500 Suburban is garaged at home.

We usually take a ski trip to Colorado.  I rely on the good cold flow characteristics of the Mobil 1 to handle the cold morning starts.  Figure it's a good trade off for the more robust oil stock of the 1600 mile road trip.
