XSaNiTy Posted November 18, 2001 Posted November 18, 2001 so i went mudding today. lots of fun, never managed to get stuck even wheni thought i was going to (stock firestone tires) anyway, on to the question: ive never worried before but im starting to be bothered by all the mud on my engine. I mean, its all over the place under the hood and coating everything. What should i do in order to protect my engine from water/mud damage? are there things that could and should be sealed such as the electronics center, etc? what have you guys done? thanks a lot.
MountaineerTom Posted November 18, 2001 Posted November 18, 2001 I havn't done anything special, but I did find that I had quite a bit of slack in the vent tube for the front differential, so I loosened up the little plastic clamps that secure it and was able to raise the end of it up about 5 or 6 inches. The best thing I've found is to clean it up as soon as possible. If you can clean it imidiately afterwards, it's a lot easier to accomplish. After it dries up, it seems harder to get it looking good. Check in the Guides section here at GMTC, I did a tech article on cleaning the engine bay.

If it was me, I wouldn't do anything. All the electrical components under the hood had dang well better have come sealed up from the factory. The get subjected to all sorts of water and mud (as you now know), and GM knows this. I've had my truck off-road plenty of times, and never had a problem. The only thing I do is cover up the alternator and distributor when I clean the engine compartment about once a year. LOL
