I know what most of yall will say that the Z71 is better and i say that too but what are teh true facts that make people think Fx4 can keep up with the Z71 and whats up with the Z71 bein an offroad truck but they sit kinda of low. I heard the Fx4s use rancho shock i looked at one today and i didnt see rancho shocks (this was an 04 ford). What shocks do Z71s use. Lets get adiscussion goin bout this lol.

Pop the hood on both. 1hr to change plugs on a chevy (being generous)

2-3hrs on a ford. (maybe more) both trucks can be good or bad. As a mechanic i know which one i'd rather work on. If you just pay to have work done i don't see a difference between the two. I actually like the NBS ford's looks. Just nothing else.

Off-road? My bets on the Ford. I know shoot me now. :D

I don't see the difference, I imagine they're relatively similar.

(Ford's off-road package vs. Chevy's "off-road suspension")

Chevy used to have Bilstein shocks now they use Tenneco (sp.) flips back and forth alot.

Okay I looked to see what Ford brings to the table:

(Standard items to the FX4 that are not standard to other models from their web-site)

Sport Cloth seats 40/20/40

Leather Steering Wheel

Floor mats

Two-tone body color/grey bumpers

Fender flares

Skid plates

5.4l V8

Electronic shift on the fly 4x4

limited slip rear diff.

17" aluminum wheels

"Off-Road tuned shocks" (Rancho?)

Chevrolet:

Skid Plate Package

46mm shock absorbers

Off-road jounce bumpers and stabilizer bars

High-capacity air cleaner

Z71 decals

Foglamps

Heavy-duty locking rear differential

Wheel flares

Normaly thought u can see the rancho shocks on the fords but when i looked at the ford and checked out the shocks they looked liek stock ones. Do the Z71s still have the lockin diff and the ford has the limitied slip diff?

The Chevy uses a clutch pack to activate full lock. (Locking)

Fords, I don't know much about for obvious reasons.

Anyone notice the FX4 sticker when it came out it copied the same colors as the Z71? Conspiracy theory??? :lol

Who cares if the Ford has Rancho shocks? They're going to be crap shocks anyway. Just like the Bilsteins on the Z71s. I know Rancho makes good shocks, as does Bilstein...But the ones that the manufacturers use are generally the cheapest shocks that the supplier can produce.

If you're really going to do hard core off-roading, you're going to be lifting it and putting bigger tires and real skid plates on it anyway. Not to mention replacing the shocks.

People are pretty much going to buy either what they like, or what they can afford. Arguments like this are pointless.

Ditto with Wingnut....

I see countless new trucks, without even their plates yet, where people spend all that extra for the "Z" or the "F" or whatever "offroad" package, to just run it across the street and put the lift kit (which needs different shocks), larger tires/wheels.

Isn't the Z71 package about the cost of lift kit hardware?

Also out of curiousity....when a truck is at least 3" lifted with 33's, isn't obvious that it is a 4WD without the rear quarter decal? :D

Oh'well, my 77 TA had the screamin' chicken on the hood, so who's talkin'...then again I didn't have the Bandit stripping on it.

Simple...The Z71 is better because its a Chevy and the FX4 is a Furd! :D

Tucson,I would agree with you on the 3" lift and the 33" tires that we should know its a 4WD,But unfortunetly now guys are taking there 2WD trucks and lifting them :D I hate that! :P If you want a 4wd look.....Buy a 4WD :D

Tenneco, thats all that Rancho are. I'd bet that both Chevy and Ford use the same ones.

One key point to note is that many people out there buy the Z71 and FX4 trucks because of they way they look and not because they are 4WD and plan to go offroad with them. Many people like that they sit up higher (at least the Fords do), have bigger tires, etc. but they will use them to drive to work and back (ME!).

Has anyone else besides me looked at the 2005 Tahoes / Suburbans? The Z71 model of those trucks is so popular because of their apparance that you can now buy a 2WD Z71 SUV. This Z71 is now more of an appearance package than it is anything!

Yep. I bought the Z71 mainly for the package grouping that included most of the options I wanted (speaking as the owner of a most on road daily driver..)
