Just ordered one and was wundering if they have the wheel mouldings.

I have studied the order information but they are vauge about the mouldings.I am thinking that with the 265 tires it will have them.I am hoping that it will.

I am pretty excited about getting a bad ace 1/2 truck. My HD2500 8.1 is cool but its just a heavy beast. With the 4.10 gears she should be pretty strong.I guess they have a new rear end but I am not sure what its all about.I know its a 9.5 gear but is it a full floater or what?

No,The 9.5 rear will be a "semi-floating" axle (Just like the 8.6 rear thats in all the other 1/2 tons)

As far as I can tell from our order guide for '06 the wheel opening flares (Which are option code B71) does not come on the "VortecMax" pkg. They only come on trucks with the Z71 pkg. (Which of course you can't get with the "VortecMax" pkg.)

Thanks again for your help but they are telling me that the truck I want can not be ordered right now.

I am guessing that it so they can get up to speed with the standard trucks and bring their inventory back up.

I'm not sure about the flares, but I know you should be able to order one. If your local dealer won't work with you, then I suggest going to the next closest bigger town and trying again.

Also, for more VortecMax/Perfomance Edition information check out the sister site:

There is a section devoted especially to this type of vehicle. :shakehead:

Yeah, I think the VortecMax package is around $3500 or so. Just FYI, a few days ago I was playing around on the GMC site configuring trucks and noticed they DO have the option to add the VortecMax. At the time, the Chevy site DID NOT have this option.

Perhaps you can tweak it enough to make it affordable? Also keep in mind, most GMC's are slightly higher.

Now if I could only order the 6.0L for 2 grand (includes auto) over the price of a base 4x4.

Almost every one of the local delerships near where I live, in the Portland, Oregon area, have at least one VortecMax. Regrettably, most of them are black, for pity's sake.....must be shooting towards a market that I no not undersand. :shakehead::banghead:

The one I lust over is at Suburban Chevrolet in Sandy, Oregon. It is Victory Red with a Dark Charcoal interior. LT3 (leather doesn't show blood), crew cab and electric sunroof, of course. MSRP is $42, 455 and the Red Tag price is $34,515. BUT, I've promised myself that I will wait until the 2007 model year and see what the new body style brings.

The VortecMax Performance Package, according to the the listings on GM Buy Power is $2,205 (NOT $3,500). This buys you the 6.0 High Output engine, 4-speed Superduty transmission, a much heaver diff system, a totally adjustable suspension system, locking rear differential, 4.10 rear axle and HD trailering equipment. Heck of a value, in my opinion.

By the way, literally all of the VortecMax trucks in our area feature the relatively standard P265/70R17 tires. Obviously, I would instantly replace the tires with Toyo Open Country 265/70/17 Load Range E (10-ply). We hunt several big game in several states every year and when we are not hunting, we tow a 23-foot Arctic Fox trailer; weak, thin sidewalled 4-ply tires are totally inappropriate for our use and the ten-ply Toyos are superb.

I like Victory Red too, I used to own a 2002 ECSB 5.3 in that color but come one....black is awesome!!!

Anyhow, in regards to the pricing on the VortecMax/Performance Edition package, here is a screen capture from the GMC website. As you will notice it includes many extras so perhaps when doing a custom order at the dealership you can get reduce the price to $2025 as mentioned. Also it may be setup different for Chevy vs. GMC, but as I already noted, the VortecMax option doesn't show up on the Chevy build site yet.
