Problem with T-case

Recommended Posts

It's a 2500HD manual shift T-case. When you shift to 4wd the T-case will lock the drive shaft but the front axle will not engage. The 4wd light will not come on either but low side still works. I made sure the plugs are connected. I will need 4wd next week for work.

Thanks

There's a solenoid on the front axle that needs to be replaced. You get it from the dealer. This is the most common thing with non enguaging 4wd on GM trucks. It's threaded into the diff on the pass side with a two wire connector. Looks kinda like a slightly smaller GM starter solenoid. They cost about 65 bucks wholesale. (I think)

By the way, sorry I didn't try and help in the cam sensor post, I've been very busy in a Hurricane relief prodject over here. I really don't have time to think that hard right now. LOL

I've replaced the solenoid on the front axle and the switch on the t-case. $200 later and it still does not work.

Is their something else I need to look at. I'm thinking I might have a broken wire some where.

Dang that sucks. By the way when the old one went out it most likely blew it's fuse. You did check fuses didn't you? If the fuse is good use a voltmeter to see if you get a voltage at that new solenoide when you switch on the 4wd. One side is ground and the other is powered when you turn it on. If there's no voltage with a good fuse suspect the switch. Pull it out and use the voltmeter to check that it sends voltage out when you turn on the 4wd. The wire color should match the one on the solenoid.
