I will always say stick with the OEM units for any vehicle. if you ahve a mopar - use champion

ford - autolite

import - NGK

GM - Delco

I have seen more drivability issues solved by going (back) to OEM wires and plugs than just about anything else.

That being said. I got $50 certificate from a parts place, so a set of NGK TR55IX's are on the way to my house as we speak. I have heard quite a few good things about them from other forums I have been on, so I will give them a try.

Someone tell me which plugs should be .60 gapped and which should be left alone? I was told to always gap them because it could burn too hot and wear out something.

OK.. SO the platinums are the prefered plugs..... My question is this.. I am calling around to get a price on them, but everywhere I call, iridiums are coming up for my truck and they have no part number for platinums...

Truck is an 02 silvy, 5.3L.

Can anyone tell me a PLATINUM plug number to replace my iridiums with? Or should I just stick with the iridiums??

Thanks in advance...

OK so everydealer/autoparts supplier I am calling is referencing the iridiums 41-985.

For all of you who voted for platinums I have a couple of questions.

What is the delco number of thr plugs you have (is it 41-932)??

Is your truck a 99-02?

Can you find any reference that link that plug (41-931) to your truck?

I am just going to go with the iridiums (985's) if no one can confirm that they are using the platinums in a 99-02 5.3L.

Thanks again.

Could any of the 5 people running Bosch +4's post a short critique?  I just bought a set to try but haven't put them in yet.  I've heard everything from "they're awsome" to "they suck".  I don't think a reputable company like Bosch would market them for 'modern cars and trucks' if they hadn't tested them and found them to be safe for our engines.  Any info would be good.  No bashing, just honest feedback, please.  I plan to put them in 'just to see' regardless of the feedback.

I ran them in my 99 NBS Sierra\5.3 and loved them. I just put them in my 04 Tahoe and they are running fine, smooth idle and quick starts. When I took out my OEM Denso's it appeared there was a lot of unburned gas on them. Don't know the significance of that, but the electrodes were damp and smelled of fuel. I never had any trouble with them. A lot f people on these forums bad mouth the +4. I don't how many of these people have actually ever used them, but I have had good luck with the +4s in the past. My Tahoe was getting 13.8 mpg hghwy with the Denso's. My pickup got 15 city-20 hghwy with the +4s. But we are not necessarily comparing apples to apples.

My 01 suburban gets about 13-14 mpg in the city, about 17-18 on the highway and about 12 mpg on the highway when I towed a car on a trailer. My suburban has 63k miles and all stock plugs wires, everything. But I'm ready to change them out that why I've been reading this board. I've used the bosch platinums, platinum+2's and the +4's all e few years ago in my oldmobile. I noticed a big improvement going from ac delco plugs to the platinums. Then I upgraded to the +2's at the next tune up, But didnt notice any difference. Next tune up, I went with the +4's and still noticed no difference. To me, all the bosche platinums performed the same. So I'm considering either putting the bosche platinums or the AC delco platinums on my truck now.

Check out www.sparkplugs.com for a wide selection of plugs and don't believe everything you read here when it comes to gapping....your best bet is to check what the manufacturer recommends. Personally after running both iridiums and double platinums I'd stick w/ the double platinums.

OEM Irridiums are 20 bucks a hole for my 02 Tahoe 5.3L from a recent parts quote from several dealers. I've got 160,000K on the originals and the truck still runs like a top but I think I will change them out before winter as preventative maintenance. Guess thats why they are pricey.

I just changed mine for the first time in my 01 Yukon. To my surprize the factory plugs said GM on one side and NGK on the other. The pluggs I used were NGK TR55IX $7.00 from Summit Racing. So far no problems runs and idles good.

How do you gap spark plugs. I figure its about time to replace mine and I am just curious about how to actually do it.

Pick up a gauge from AutoZone for a dollar. Run the edge under the electrode, and read the number on the gauge.

And the TR55's are my favorite. I put them in my GTO after about 12000, and it definitely smoothed out the idle compared to stock. I'm planning on going to the TR55's in the truck pretty soon.

Had mine replaced about 3 weeks ago with Plats from ACD just over 125,000kms and I tell you, what a difference. I heard the horror stories with replacement over 100,000kms and didn't want to run into having the head rebuilt. Had them replaced and the truck has a new life of its own. I love smoking 5.7 "Hemi" wannabes. They used to call them Dodge.
