Giant,

If it was me, I would change those plugs.

I just always change mine about every 15 k or so, though I am bad about over doing mainetenance on my cars.

Wifes plugs just got swapped out last weekend, but they looked as if they had been in there since the car was purchased. We just bought it about 5 months ago used with 60k on it. So shes added about 7k to it now, and I thought they needed to be done, and they really needed it.

I don't think it can hurt to put new ones in there, they always make it better with a brighter cleaner spark.

I have put the Denso Iridiums in my 03 Suburban, and they made a huge difference in the power over the AcDelco Iridium Stock Plugs. I will tell you this, as I bought a new pair of both plugs, so yea Double the price but I was trying to do a test, and now I do have a stock pair of the AcDelco Iridiums lying in the garage with all my other junk. The Denso plug is the one that Stayed in the car. I ran these after changing the plugs from the old ones, for about 4 days, then I put in the Ac Delco to see what it seemed like. Huge Difference in the power and torque I have.

Here is a link to the Denso site on these plugs: http://www.densoiridium.com/ir_power.php

I have the U Groove plugs.

I just returned from Garland, TX last evening after hauling a friends Saleen Mustang over to Lonestar Performance to have a custom tune done. Every mechanic in the place let us know that the platinum plugs my friend had in his stang were junk and that they use nothing but $2 copper core plugs. I've personally tried the iridiums and the platinums and although the truck ran fine I haven't been impressed w/ the idle with either. I now know what the next set of plugs that I install will be. Anyone have an opionion on the best copper core plug for my 5.3L?

I'm trying to decide between the AC, NGK, and Denso Iridium plugs. I might try the NGK Iridiums. GM makes boat engines for Mercruiser. The engines come stock with AC plugs, but Mercruiser recommends NGK for replacement plugs. I have used the NGK V-power plugs before, and they were nice in my boat and 87 GTA. I tried the Bosch platinum +4s in my 2001 Suburban 8.1L, and it was missing. I dont know if it was a bad plug or the +4's were just not working right with that engine. Bosch does have a money back guarantee, so I sent them back and was refunded my money. I then went with the AC Iridiums, and everything was fine.

Anyone else had good or bad luck with the NGK Iridiums TR55???

I have never changed plugs yet, on my 99 GMC Z-71. Though I did checked them last week and they looked great. My truck runs better than my L48 vette did.(77) Current mileage is 258k km and I bought it at 160k km. 5 years ago. It's been a great truck and I don't baby it, but I don't abuse it either.

I put in the NGK Iridiums and Taylor Thundervolt 50 wires the other day. The idle seems to be a little smoother. Before I noticed a little jump in the idle when in drive stopped at a red light. It seems to be gone, but I have only put a few miles on it since.

Hey,

The AC Iridium's are NGK. Don't like NGK, won't ever use them. Either Bosch, or AC Delco Platinums.

If they are both the same, what's the difference that makes you not like NGK??? I'm not saying that they are better that ACs, both were $6.99 each at the local parts stores. I have had luck with the NGKs in different cars, so I tried them. I wasn't expecting a big difference, and there wasn't. My jumpy idle could have been the old plugs, wires, or something else.

I'm about to change plugs, wires, and cap in my 95' K1500 Silverado. What plugs should I go with? AC Delco RAPIDFIRES or the plain copper Delco's? From what I've read, I believe I'm going to stick with Delco on this little tune up, with wires, cap, and plugs. Just don't know which plugs are better for my TBI truck.

After reading this I pulled a plug out of my 2002 SD 6.0 and it looks brand new after 67,000 miles of burning the cheapest gas I can find. My thoughts are that if the originals are good for 100k (not that I really plan on leaving them in there that long) why even consider anything else?

OK.. SO the platinums are the prefered plugs..... My question is this.. I am calling around to get a price on them, but everywhere I call, iridiums are coming up for my truck and they have no part number for platinums...

Truck is an 02 silvy, 5.3L.

Can anyone tell me a PLATINUM plug number to replace my iridiums with? Or should I just stick with the iridiums??

Thanks in advance...

i truly believe you should stay with the iridium's. either delc or ngk will be winners. they will truly last longer than you can imagine........ when i bought my 01 silverado it had 98,ooo miles. changed the plugs first thing!! they were ac-delco by ngk!! iridium's and they were still in great shape. and i'm sure they were the originals. that speaks for itself...

OEM Irridiums are 20 bucks a hole for my 02 Tahoe 5.3L from a recent parts quote from several dealers. I've got 160,000K on the originals and the truck still runs like a top but I think I will change them out before winter as preventative maintenance. Guess thats why they are pricey.

Autozone has the ac/delco iridium's for about 8.00 a plug. that's what i put back in my 01 silverado. bought a set of delco iridium's off ebay for my tahoe for 5.00 a plug!!!!!!!!!!

if you have a little patience and time shop their...
