New motor Break-in

What exactly is the best way to break-in a new truck motor. The dealership told me to drive it "normal" for a few hundred miles or so, that no break-in was really necessary. Is it so?

I tried to refrain from hard acceleration for about 1000 miles and to vary transmission speed as much as possible but i did not "baby"it either.

I went to Mobil 1 synthetic oil at 2300 miles also.

Thanks.

Well from what I understand its the rearend, and tranny that need breaking in more than the motor.

But I've always drove it nice for 500 miles or so, then drove it like I stole it.

But I really never launched it hard till 2 or 3 thousand miles.

They come in nearly broken-in from the factory. As mentioned in a parallel running, similar thread as this one, Corvettes come from the factory with synthetic.

Using this syntax on GOOGLE, you can find every message about "break-in" on this board:

Yowzer's!

What i am reading here is that as long as i am not drag racing around town constantly for the first few miles then all is fine.

Amazing how many different views there are on this one subject.
