Got my truck back from the body shop

Seems as though my luck has not changed. I was suppose to pick it up Friday, they were waiting for the second set of nerf bars, first ones were for a crew cab. I called Monday and they still weren't there.

 

Tuesday I finally got to go get it. As soon as I pulled up in the rental I noticed something wasn't right. Even the guy dropping me off said "that doesn't look too good"

 

Both moldings on the passenger side were crooked, the back door has both corners pointing upwards...kinda like a smile. The passenger door molding goes down at both corners looking rather sad. It was 5:30 pm so there wasn't much light. The guy came out and asked what I thought, I told him even though it was dark I could tell the moldings were crooked. He said it was probably an optical illusion........ :wtf: ......I told him to bend over...not to kick him in the a$$ but to look at it more straight on. He said he could see what I was talking about and that I should look at it in the light and if it bothered me that much they would order new ones.

 

I came home and compared them to the drivers side. Not only do they not line up but they are 3/4" lower then the drivers side. :D I also saw lots of swirl marks in between the windows and found a run at the back end. I still haven't had a chance to really get a good look at it, we have had nothing but clouds and snow.

 

They had to paint the entire passenger side, which I will say they matched the factory job to a tee. Just can't get a good look at it.

 

I called him yesterday and told him to order new moldings. I've had too many people notice they weren't straight.

 

Guys will this ever stop? I have never had so many problems with a vehicle until I owned a truck. Maybe it's just not meant to be :cheers:

 

I'm disgusted as usual :wtf:

It's not neccessarily the vehicle's fault. Both this time and the tailgate were the fault of the shop not caring as much as you do about how your vehicle looks.

Blue has it right and your post says it too Lisa...."If it bothered me"...it seems and has become obvious that they're out to try to get by with whatever they can if you're not willing to stand up or take a close look at things. Everyone here can definitely understand the frustration. But the persistance is the only thing that is going to get it done right.

I know but I am so tired 99 silveradoz, the last year and half I have spent more time "fixing" my truck than enjoying it. I'm just tired of all the time spent on trips dropping it off and picking it up. If you had to add all the trips to get the 02 & 05 fixed, it's well over 30+.........that's just too much. I have a full moon every night it seems. Thanks for the shoulder. :cheers:

 

blue2kzr2 I know it's not the trucks fault, I'm just tired of all the battles I have to go through just to have a nice truck.

Go buy a 1972 3/4 ton long bed Chevy pickup that's got rats living behind the glove box, rust holes in the floor you can spit through, and an ingnition system that requires a screwdriver jumping the posts on the starter to get it running (but only on the cold and slushy days). Oh, and let's throw some old and bald bias ply tires on there, just to make it hard to keep between the lines while we're at it.

 

Tailgate problems and molding misalignments will be the least of your worries. :wtf:

 

 

 

Seriously, I wish there were something I could do or say that would make your problems go away...But yeesh. They must see you coming or something.

 

I really can't offer a lot of advice in your posts about the problems you've had. This is because I try and imagine myself in your shoes when I read your tales of woe, just to see how I'd handle the situation if I were you.....First off, I don't fit in those tiny-assed shoes, and that puts me in a bad mood right off the bat, then I realize that I have boobs and get distracted for an hour or so....Then I see that they've screwed up the truck again while I was checking myself out...Then I shoot somebody in the foot because hey, this crap is getting old. Yup, I'd be in jail for the sniping of toes.

 

So, you see...I have nothing useful to tell you. So I'll just show up in your threads and try to be funny. :cheers:

finding good mechanics and body shop repair people is next to impossible. There are very few good ones out there that do a good job and look after your vehicle. I find for the most part that most just couldn't care less. Maybe there should be a board where one could post shops with good repair people for everyones reference.

Hey Lisa, sorry about your truck...again. How do you keep for going ballistic????? Must be good blood pressure pills.

I thought you wanted the molding off. ell them to take off the molding, give you the new stuff and you'll put it on later if you decide.

You've definitely shown us all a lot by sticking with it through all this drama. I think we should round up the posse sometime and make a trek up there to take care of business and be sure that truck is squared away for good. :cheers:

fossil totally agree with you there, I was thinking about taking it to the last dealership I liked, their bodyshop guy was really nice.....everybody said not to take it to a dealer though.

 

budone didn't go to the dealer this time, this was a place recommended through my work and my brother.

 

 

 

facn8me I did think about not putting the moldings on but,.... don't laugh...........One day I was sitting on my porch looking at the truck after I washed it and that silly chrome strip was just eating at me. I grabbed some electrical tape and covered the chrome up. It looked awesome, matched the moldings perfectly. I thought it would fall off once it got wet but it didn't. It even survived the accident, don't know how. The collision shop bought special tape to put over the chrome strip, crappy job at that, and then didn't even do the drivers side. It really does look good, I'll post a picture once I wash it.

 

99silveradoz71 You're on, wouldn't that be a site. Have a hundred or so trucks all pull into the parking lot at one time. One way to get things done. :cheers:

Finally have some sun today so I took her up and got her washed. Told the guys to be gentle since she just got a face lift. Also asked them to look her paint job over. They thought it turned out good except for the moldings........couldn't believe they gave it to me that way. Found 2 small runs, nothing for me to go through hell and back for though.

 

Took my daughter's 99 Avenger in. I think the fuel pump is going. She starts it up in the morning to warm up and when she goes out to leave it has quit running and won't start. Turns over fine, just sounds like it's not getting gas. Wait a couple of hours and then it starts. The ex came over and dumped 2 bottles of dry gas in it and filled it up, he thinks it's just water. This has happened 4 times in the last 2 weeks. I don't think it's water in the gas. I had to take her to school this morning, went out a couple hours later and it started right up, service engine soon light was on. We'll see how much this will cost me.

 

Somedays it really sucks to be a grown up. :)

      I've installed cheap eBay new aftermarket digitizers before.  They work.  Did a bunch of Cadillac CUE (aka Cadillac's MyLink) for someone years ago.  They all worked fine after the repair.    That number 22740886, that is a component part # for GM.  You can use it to search, but its not something that's obtainable at the dealer level.     So pretty much any of these will work - 2015 Colorado Digitizer for sale | eBay

      You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode.

      "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...
