'99 silverado problems

Ok, first off i'm gonna say that i love chevrolet, its all i have ever owned, but i'm having bad luck lately. I just bought a 99 silverado 1500 4x4 to replace my 71 k10. Figure i'll have no problems. well i have a couple of questions...

first, there is a noticable eek type sound when i first hit the gas, my buddy has a 2000 gmc and it makes the exact same noise, he said that he never noticed it before.

second, maybe its just me but when it shifts into second there is a hesitation. Maybe its because my old truck had a shift kit, and shifted quick and hard. it only does it if i'm going slow, if i stand on it it shifts fine. (probably why i didn't notice the first week)

and lastly sometimes when i first start the truck in the morning, i can't just put it in gear and drive away, the whole engine hesitates, for about 5-10 seconds before i can hit the gas and go...no codes and i checked the air filter...

this truck has broke 3 times and i haven't even made a payment. I had the rear brakes and driver window accuator fixed under warranty, and i just replaced the u-joints on the rear drive-shaft myself. The truck only has 36300 miles on it. sucks when there is no grease fittings. the new ones had grease fittings so i'm happy about that.

one other thing the guy i purchased it from got a company truck 4 months before he sold this one to me, could the time sitting idle have hurt it?

any help would be appreciated.

Well I'm new to the board so I need to get this out of the way : From what I can tell it's one of the best boards I've come across, everyone seems real nice.

I also have a '99 Silverado 4x4 and mine does the exact same thing during the shifts as well as the occasional hesitation when I start (which I find generally comes when I leave the truck sit a few days).  I've talked to my dealership as well as other Silverado owners, all of which say it's normal.  If anyone finds out otherwise please let me know.

As for the eek sound you were referring to, I olny notice it when I come across Pedestrians.

You might try getting the Tranny reprogrammed for the shifting.

If the "eek" you hear is more of a "squak" upon take off, then its prolly the slip yoke problem and you might want to get the new Nickel Plated yoke installed as well as the new Auto Trac II fluid put in.

the autotrac (blue color) fluid stopped my eeek noise . real simple, the fluid is like 5.60 a quart and you need almost 2 quarts. you must flush it first with the blue and then refill with blue, tsb says two quarts to flush and two to refill. it works. they said noise should stop in 100 miles or less, stopped in 97 miles. had 38000 on it at the time.

U-Joints have been a problem for the 99s...I got mine replaced at 26,000 miles (and very light duty, little towing).

At the time, there was a GM national backorder of them when I got it done...so I got a whole new driveshaft to boot.

what is the slip yoke you are talking about?  transfer case? can i change this myself? and is the autotrac II fluid also in the transfer case?? is there a tsb number for this, telling how to do it all.

i can't really explain the sound, its not metallic, maybe how rubber would slide across steel.

thank you
