Modding my truck... hurdles? No can dos?

Being that I just picked up my truck there are a few things I've been daydreaming about. Several things that would make it perfect, or add something I wish it had. Ideally I'd like to use GM parts from newer model trucks/Tahoes etc. as opposed to aftermarket. Just like the factory look I guess.

Anyone done any of these? Any suggestions as to what year and model I should try canibalizing stuff from? Anyone tried it and want to suggest that it's "Not worth it."? or "It won't fit without MAJOR modification."

My truck is a 2000 regular cab by the way.

In no particular order I'd like to add:

Newer style headunit with XM radio

Nav (maybe)

Long style overhead console

Capitan chair style leather seats w/ the center console. Power seats would be a bonus

Heated seats

Pushbutton folding mirrors (would love this one as my garage fit is tight)

On-Star

Newer model style steering wheel (like it better...may not be feasable)

Headunit can't be newer than '02, I think.

Nav - don't know

Console and seats - completely doable

Don't know about the mirrors

...Or the steering wheel.

I don't believe you an put On Star on a vehicle that didn't have it put on from the factory. I may be wrong. Everything else on your list is doable. It just depends on how far you want to go on modifying and how much you want to spend. I had to have my drivers side mirror replaced under warranty. A heated, powered, self dimming mirror for one side is $400+. I'd have to look at my receipt to double check. You can check ebay for something a little cheaper, but I would think you'd have to find one either with a wiring harness or make up one of your own. I would think the seats would be pretty close to being interchangeable, and if not, without much modification. If you try these, let us know how it goes. And if you can take pictures along the way. I'd like to see what you come up with. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Brian. I do know you can add OnStar as there is a website out there dedicated to doing just that. Not sure if it's something I want to tackle yet or not :D

I'll definately go the salvage/ebay route as opposed to buying parts from new due to the cost factor.

These are things I'm dreaming about (have a car for sale right now that I have to get rid of before I have "play money") but when I do get around to them I'll definately document it as well as I can.

hey im kinda new to the whole truck world, i just went from a 2000 lexus gs400 to a 2002 yukon sle. so far its a sick truck. when i looked into doing the whole denali sound system upgrage tho after the fact, everyone i asked kinda looked at me like are you serious. haha

being that i have no experience with GM i dont know how to take this. but i keep hearing something about if you want the NAV system from the newer model trucks that you need a Y91 option? something to do with the amps and the wiring i guess.

anyways sorry if this is not helpful, happy if it is. and anyone out there feel free to correct me

You can add onstar to vehicles without it from the factory, it's gonna cost you though. I also take it you have a bench seat??? Reapolstering is always an option if you just are after the leather look. My grandfather got is entire Trailblazer leathered for a grand, it'd probably be less that half that for leather in your truck.
