Can't Reset OLM

Recommended Posts

I've been trying for the last few days to get the OLM to reset on my 'Burban. Yes, I know how but for some reason it won't take. :( I have yet to see the confirmation 'change oil' light blink on the message center after cycling the gas pedal!!! :seeya:

I've been jumping in, rolling the key to 'ON' and within 5 seconds (I've even tried timing it) pushed the pedal all the way to the floor and back three times. I've tried it with relatively quick pedal pushes and I've tried dragging it out to almost the full 5 seconds. The pedal is definately hitting the floor each time, and I've been waiting 30-60 seconds after pushing the pedals for a confirmation light on the message center. I've tried turning it off and restarting after the procedure. I've tried locking/unlocking the doors before the procedure, both with the door switch and the remote. I'm fresh out of ideas.

I've also done a search for a similiar problem and came up empty handed... Any tips/tricks are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Andrew

go slow(one pump per second) and dont stop at 3 pumps, keep going until you see the light start flashing

I hate to say it, but I've tried that route as well, although not near as many times as the three pump method. :( About the only thing I notice is that the Battery light in the message center will go out and come back on, about a 1 second deal, but no amber oil related message/light at all.

I'll go home tonight and give it another few tries though, thank you for the suggestion.

I'll have to try that too, I've never been able to get mine to "confirm" either.

So, I am not alone! I noticed you have a 2000 as well...anything to do with that model year? :( I'm new to this Chev. stuff... :seeya:

I've had my 2000 for almost a year now. I love it. Best truck I've ever owned. I've done about 5 oil changes on it and I've tried the oil light thing every time and I've never gotten it to work. The light itself does work, because one time I could never seem to find the time to change the oil and the change oil light came on.

I have a 2005 Suburban and this Topic begs the question .... "What is the procedure to reset the OLM?".

I searched the forum but I could not find the answer to this question.

Thanks,

Joe.

The procedure is turn your ignition to the on position. Then within 5 seconds press your accelarator to the floor and back up 3 times. Depending on the year and model you will either see your oil change light flash or a message saying the Oil Monitor has been reset.

Have a nice day.

I've followed this procedure many times (it should be in the book that came with your truck) and it has never worked :banghead:

Pumping hte pedal 3 times has never worked for me. I do 5 quick pumps and it works every time. Key to on position --->5 quick pumps--->key to off--->start. Light flashes and POOF.....gone.

Like JRod said... I think an important key is to "Start" the truck. For some reason I think I had problems once because I didn't have the door closed too...

Okay, it's been a week...and no luck. I've tried to reset the OLM every single time I get in this thing to drive somewhere, for a week straight!!! I've tried turning the key on, pumping, off and then start - no go. I've tried pumping 3, 5, even 7-8 times quickly, slowly, any combination of pumps and key positions previously recommended (and some that weren't) it WILL NOT CONFIRM! I've tried every imaginable method including all those listed here and it acts the same every time...nothing! I'm not really worried about reseting the OLM so it can tell me when to change my oil, it's the fact that it's suppose to work, and it doesn't...that's what really gets me fired up.

Anyone have any ideas? I'll even video this mo-fo when I get some time if you don't think I'm doing it right...

Have you read your owners manual? Do what it tells you to .  Different years = different ways.

Yes, read it a few times...did exactly what it said...a few times; so many in fact that I've lost count. This last week I've made it a point to try and reset it every time I'm in-and-out of the drivers seat and no dice.

Also, it seems as if I'm not the only one...

...which begs the question(s), is there something wrong and/or is there another way to set/check/reset it.

FWIW, I'm no mechanical dummy either. I work mostly on later model 2 and 4 stroke MX bikes from top to bottom (in my leisure) so I feel confident I have the skills required to push the gas pedal 3 times and work the key.

Just a little frustrated is all, I do appreciate the input though; Thank You.

Hey Faded, maybe call the dealer? Not sure if you still have any warranty coverage or not. Maybe they can help over the phone.

PS - I recognize your handle from AllThingsMoto you 2 stroke tunin' fool!
