CAN A CUSTOM PCM BURN BE DETECTED BY A TECH 2 ?

No, not normally. If they do something strange with calibration numbers AND if a tech were to look for that, they might be able to tell. Personally, I have never seen anything on any car with a tech 2 that would alert me to modifications and we've looked when a car was suspect.

The bigger problem is that if you don't tell them you've updated the calibration with some performance deal, what are you going to do when they update the PCM calibration just as a matter of course and wipe out your $$$ changes.

That sorta is a catch-22--do you tell them that you have a custom PCM so that they don't blow away your tune, thus possibly having that fact entered in the vehicle history log that your local GM dealer keeps in their system--and which is probably linked to a centralized GM vehicle log network so that other GM dealerships might be able to pull it up as well--so that they could try to use it against you if you have a powertrain warranty claim? Or do you keep your mouth shut and deal with having to pay someone to reprogram your custom tune (assuming you didn't do it yourself--although many tuners will reprogram it for a small fee)?

Data is not shared or available to other dealerships. The only thing another dealer can see is a warranty repair and very little detail on that.

Just a matter of note, Wester's will reflash your config for the cost of shipping and handling $45 each occurence for life. Wester's also offers 100% tradein credit towards a newer model, i.e. you have Wester's on your 2002 1500 and you trade it in for a 2006 2500HD. The amount you paid for the 1500 is applied towards the 2500HD.

As I said, other dealers can see warranty work done at other dealers. However, warranty repairs do no include comments like "This guy has an aftermarket tune burned into his PCM."
