Stock Head Unit Wattage

Well, I'm off to the races, as they say, with replacing my stock speakers and sub. I've already ordered the sub (Memphis 8" dual coil) and if I can win the auction, I'll be putting a set of Infinity 652i speakers in the rear.

 

But for the front, I want to stick with component to keep the tweeter output a bit higher on the door. I'm concerned that a coaxial setup will loose some of the sound due to the 6'5" speaker's position in the door.

 

I really like this set of Polk components at Crutchfield:

But the recommended power is 10-100W RMS. Since I'm not upgrading the headunit or anything like that, I'm not sure if the stock HU can drive this sufficiently. I'm not looking for concert volume sound, but clean sound at reasonable listening volumes.

 

Other speaker seems to start with an RMS rating of around 2 or 5, which I'm confident the head unit is at least.

You didn't say which vehicle you are working on. That makes it harder I think. The fact that you mention a sub makes me think you have a Bose system. You're not going to find speakers for it since they have a weird impedance. If I'm wrong and your head is not a Bose then I'd say you're ok with the Polks. All heads put out more than 10w direct to speakers.

Thanks. I figured my info on the left showed the vehicle. It's a 2002 Tahoe, non Bose, with Onstar. It has the 9 speaker system. 4 door speakers, 2 rear pillar tweets and a sub.

 

The Polk components are rated from 10-100W RMS. I'm concerned that if the radio puts out 10 and the speakers minimum is 10, that it might not sound ok.
