Newb - Braker controller install

Hi all. Just purchased an '06 Sierra 2500HD with a D-max. Ive been searching all the posts on wiring the brake controller for these and havent found all the info I need in one spot so Id like to have someone tell me if the info I gathered is correct.

I have a Tekonsha controller and wired it according to what I saw on their web site. It only shows up to '05 so im hoping nothing changed in '06. Can anyone verify that? The url of the pdf doc is http://www.tekonsha.com/files/BC%20Wiring%...%20Rev.%20A.pdf

I plug the other end of the GM supplied harness into the port that is second from the left on the top row of the little black box by the brake pedal, right?

The one thing im very unclear on is the fuze that goes under the hood. I do or dont need this? Thanks in advance!

Second from left on top row is correct to plug in the controller. The fuse is a 40 amp Maxi-fuse, one should be taped to your GM supplied harness. If not just get a 40 amp one like the largest ones in your underhood "electrical center" (just behind battery on DS). Insert the 40 Maxi in the center's "Stud #1" slot. This sends electrical power to your trailer brakes, without the fuse they won't work. As long as your hitch plug and trailer lead match you should be good to go after that. I don't know about your controller but mine is simple so I have to adjust the gain for city and hiway speeds.

GUYS................From other posts........Inserting a maxi fuse

in stud #1 will ONLY power up the aux. power wire in the

trailer/harness/plug.

The brakes will work without the fuse......................

So you are saying I dont need the fuse? Is there going to be any issues if I put it in anyway for grins and giggles?

It won't hurt if put one in,I did in mine and I don't tow at all.

thread w/ pics around here.............................

As already stated, the underhood fuse only powers the aux power wire in the pigtail. The power from the brakes goes through the controller and back through the wiring harness in a seperate wire.
