Is it possible to buy painted bed?

Recommended Posts

Well, long story short, I got A dent on my passenger bed side. I want to replace whole bed, is it possible to buy painted bed from GM, my truck is two tone white and pewter on the bottom.

I really don't want the body shop to touch the truck, but if I have to, who knows a good body shop in Charlotte, NC

Thank you everyone; oh yes here is the pics.

The dent on the top part of the bed looks like it could be pulled out pretty easily, without having any real body work done. I'm not sure about the bottom two. I'd look into paintless dent removal, it would be considerably cheaper than buying a new bed.

Thanks SoCal:

I went to the local PDR shop and they said that they can't do anything and reffered me to the body shop. I was also surprized by their decision!

Look for a Paintless Dent Removal they can take it out. Dents ur use, Dents be gone are some of the names. Check you phone book. I have seen dents bigger than that fixed. GM only sell whole box in black and sides too.

Well, this is not what I wanted to hear, but I guess I can't do Anything about it.

Here is Charlotte We have "Dent Magic", that where I went. Guy told me that he is limited to his own strength, and that this dent can't be pulled because it is warped to much. I don't know if he was BS'ing me.

Maybe I will try to go to a different place, and see what the other guys will tell me.

I have seen Dents or us take dents like yours out without a problem. Maybe the guy yous talked to didnt like to use 3lb hammers. <VBG> When i worked at GM (retired) we hired they to remove dents out of our service vehicles and they took care of them everytime. I would check around a little more.

GM does not sell pre painted body panels. They come e-coated and you must have them primed and painted on top of the e-coat.

By the way they could never pre paint parts and stock them hoping they decided to paint the right amount of each color panel. Just not possible to do.

In the assembly process, Paint is the most costly process due to the energy it takes to heat and humidify a paint booth.

Lastly paint color changes from day to day based on mix and process parameters of the application equipment. You could never color match a pre painted panel.

Don't be afraid of body work and paint. Done by a quality shop you will likely never notice the repair.

Your best bet is to have the right bed panel replaced with a new piece. Any decent body shop can do a good job. White paint is pretty easy to match. If they attempt to take this dent out, there will be some body filler needed because the metal has been stretched so it will not pop out without creasing. Any way, this is a purely cosmetic repair. Your truck is 6 years old. Not worth losing your sleep over.

At first look, the dent could be pulled.

As for buying painted beds...check with truck outfitters, especially the ones that sell Stahl and similar commercial utility bed/boxes. They'll have bed takeoffs. Depending where you live, there are several places in the the mid-west that have acres of takeoff beds.

This may be true but I doubt the paint will match. Color is effected by gun pressure and color lots of paint when they fill the paint pots at the plant and there are about 5 plants that build the GMT 800 and color will greatly vary from plant to plant. May be close but you are better off getting a paint shop to blend for color match.

Nah, just buy one that's close, and never wash it.

You could put that dented, two-tone bed on my truck right now, and not be able to tell the difference.
