Blurring Liscence Plate in Pictures?

Hey guys,

I have seen that some people on here and other sites blur out their liscence plates...I was just wondering why?....How much damage can someone do with your liscence plate #'s and letters?

Let's see. You have MD plates. I can look those up. I can get your driving record, street address, your drivers license number, SSN. Now I can get your credit report because I can answer all the questions. Now I can get that brand new diesel pickup I wanted because you have good credit. Not to mention those new credit cards. What did it cost me? Maybe $50. probably less.

That's how I see it.

Same with using a credit card online...I trust Amazon and Paypal with my number 245 times more than that stupid waiter I had at Chili's last week...Or the disgruntled 16 year old girl working the counter at Eddie Bauer.

My point is...If somebody were out to get me (for whatever reason), them tracking me down via my plates would be one of the more difficult ways to find me.

Just how many times DO you need to ask for a freaking spoon for your soup when there are 8 people in the entire restaurant anyway?

You guys are full of wishful thinking.

Say somebody wants a K&N intake. All they have to do is find some posts where people are telling about their K&N intake...the would-be thieves need only one piece of information...where you live or work. Are you just going to hand it to 'em by giving them your tag number?

Well I'm convinced. I guess I'll go outside and put tape over the tag #'ers I don't want to advertize my lift kit rezzy shocks and prerunner style tire rack while driving down the road.

And by "stealing your suspension lift" I mean I'm going to put your tags on my truck, and put my tags on your truck, and then park it where you had your truck, hoping you don't notice the color change.

OK, All the points made in the thread are valid to a point. My point is/was that you shouldn't provide any more information on-line than you need to. You don't need a plate number to do it. Just about anything could be enough to get details about someone. You never really know what someone might do. There's a ton of information on-line about most of you and you probably didn't even know it. Identity theft does happen. Do what you can to protect yourself. That's all. The Internet can be a dangerous place.

By reading a little disconnected information about a person, someone who was interested (or wacked) could develop a lot of information about anyone they wanted. It probably doesn't mean much to you but it might if it were about your family.

To make my point, I randomly picked someone. What does Crystal Reports, Cybershot and myspace mean to anyone on this thread. Now assume I lived near Rt 96 and 23 in Michigan. Would you be nervous just based on that? I don't know. I also don't know if this really is the person I picked. If it is, feel free to comment.

I won't comment more on this subject because some will think I'm a crackpot or I'll make others nervous. That wasn't my intent.

Yes, the internet is big and dangerous and SKEEEERY!

So is WalMart...So is South Central...So is the subway in NYC at 3 in the morning...Never stopped me from going to any of those places.

That's right...I live on the edge! I'm so crazy I even deleted Norton and Mcafee from my computer!

I even give the grubby stoned guy with 4 teeth that works the counter at the gas-n-go my credit card to pay for stuff!
