Crank Re-learn Procedure

Hey guys,

I have just gotten my Wait4Me tune in. Well, I can tell a power increase and my gas mileage is up alot also! Its great having most of the torque management removed. My question is, I am going to the dealership tomorrow to get the crank re-learn procedure. Well, I am kinda worried, because when I called I asked "I need to get the crank re-learn procedure done, is this something I can just drop by and ya'll do or do I need an appointment?" Well the service manager replied "No, you will need an appointment, because the tech has to use the scan tool and download and upload some programs". Now, is this right guys? I have to drop by there tomorrow at 12:00. Also, will it be okay to drive the truck about 150 miles. I have to make a short trip today. I need some advice and any you can give me is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Chad

I would go to a service garage other than the dealer. Any up tyo date tech can do the re-learn and it will cost no more than $20-25 thats what i did.

I agree. I took mine to a local shop that had a Snap On scan tool and had them do the relearn. He let me stand right there with him so I could see what he was doing.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is the Crank Re-learn procedure?

When you install a custom tune that gives you a different PCM (or a new PCM for that matter), you have to do a special procedure using a scan tool that establishes the relationship between the crank shaft and the crank position sensor. If you don't do this the PCM will not be able to detect and correct engine knock as effectively.

Me too. Took my truck to a local shop (my buddy is the mechanic). Took him about 5 minutes to do the crank re-learn procedure.

My initial thoughts about the wait4me re-tune, the truck doesn't rev as high. Before, at 2000rpm, speed would be 112kph, now it's about 117kph. And it seems to run quieter.

For performance increase, I don't notice any at all. :chevy:

I noticed a performance increase and i just got the economy tune. She revs quicker than before. Helps when i have to pass on a 2 lane road.
