Hard / No start

Hi I have a 1994 Chevy S10 Blazer 4x4 4dr with a 4.3 Vortec V6 and CFI Injection.

I am having trouble starting it and this morning it was 34 degrees outside and it would not start. It will fire a cupple of times and stumble but not catch. Then it just cranks with nothing.

I used some starting fluid to get it going. It runs fine and has plenty of power once it gets going. It seems to be worse the colder it gets.

There is no check engine light on and I have replaced the plugs, cap & rotor.

Can you help? Thanks, -Ken

Yep, it was the pump. I bought a fuel pressure gauge and the pressure was only 45 psi. Now with the new pump it's 65 psi.

I still don't know how it was able to run well once started with ether. It had plenty of power too.

Thanks for your help ChevyTech007! :D

Once it is up and running and warm the average fuel draw is less. On a cold start with a rich mixture you did not have enough fuel to prime the system and light it off. You might change the filter too while you are at it. One more note, those pumps are cooled and lubed by the fuel in the tank. Do not run it low a lot as it will shorten pumps life. Back in the early 80's my dad rep'ed for a company that was bidding to supply motors for that pump (GM does not make motor) and I remember the specs well and him talking about it. The challenge was to build a brushless motor that can have its bearing lubed by gas and cooled by it as well. (gas is not know for its lubiration properties)
