Autotrac question ... problem?

I had something strange happen to me tonight. It's raining out and I had to pull out from a gas station into traffic. Whenever I do something like that I usually put it in auto because the great traction that I have on these Firestones.  So to get to the point....I pull out and get off the accellerator(sp?) I then press the 2wd button, not looking and figuring it went back into 2wd. I pull into a parking space and the truck feels strange, I look at the button and the auto light is still on. I press 2wd again and again and again. Still no 2wd. I put it in park and try again, nothing. I turn it off and re-start it and try again, still nothing. I press the 4wd button and it lights. I then press the 2wd button and it finally goes into 2wd.

Has that happened to anybody else. I have had my truck 2 years (27,000 miles) and have always done this and it has never happened before.

Thanks,

Mark

From hearing of others having this problem, it sounds like your switch is going bad.  It should be covered under warranty, so just take it to your dealer and have them check it out.

I think it stores a code in the computer for that problem too.

Mine is a '99 and had similar problems plus acting like it was in 4WD locked in sharp turns. GM put the synthetic fluid in it at 33k and no problems since then.

My switch went bad a couple of months ago.  All the same symptoms.  Push the button it would light, then unlight, and go back into 2wd, or stay in 4wd, etc.

I had my switch replaced 2 weeks ago for basically the same problem. Works fine since! In my case, the Service 4WD light would come on occasionally.

I'm glad you brought this up- Looks like I need to have mine serviced as well. The same thing happened to me with the Service 4WD light and once with the button. I havent had my truck that long and just figured I had pushed something out of sequence etc... Now I know I'm not crazy....

Thanks for the info.

I'll be bringing in the truck for service probably next week or the week after, I'll mention it to them at that time and I'll let you guys know what happens.
