Ultimate TV, TIVO

Was looking into a DVR and started searching on all these. I found a good article on how to build your own.

 

Since I already have Directv would it just be better to get Ultimate TV with it or get a separate box like Tivo? Or I could just build one.

 

Suggestions?

That looks like a cool thing to do or have, but I am not too computer inclined to make such a thing. If you are i'd go for it. I am the type that just has TIVO.

Hey! I posted a post on this a while back. I'm about to build my own, but I wasn't sure about software. I've read many aritlces on the matter and so far I was gonna go with a Shuttle computer loaded up wiht Windows Media Center. I was gonna control it all with a Marantz remote. I mainly wanted to build my own wiht Windows, because I Wated to be able to access my mp3 collection remotely wiht my home theater system using wireless network.

 

If you have any ideas or have questions shoot me a PM. I'd love to swap some ideas or tidbits.

 

At the very least I'll get one of those gateways that allow me to access music. Thats the primary goal.

Hey man...You know that the Xbox 360 will do that automatically, right? Wirelessly access your network and stream your music through your HT system.

 

It's pretty dang nifty.

Another benifit I thought was laying in bed while surfing the net. At one point I was deadset on building the DVR, now I'm just pretty interested. Like I said at the very least I wanna get one of those gateway thingy's I'd been seein'.

Yup, that Xbox 360 is a cool piece of gear...Don't ever pick up a controller and start to play Geometry Wars though. It's a game that's every bit as simple at Tetris was, but even more addictive (better graphics too).

 

You'll try to go to sleep at night, and all you see when you close your eyes are those little shapes flying around.

i figure why build one when i can rent one from my cable company for only $5 a month. yeah its 5 dollars a month but im sure its not to cheap to build one either.
