1/4 mile time

Well since I just got this truck, I really dont want to take it to the track..or pay 15 bucks to race all night, and 15 bucks in gas to get there, race, and drive back home. So I was wondering what an average 1/4 time would be for my truck. I know it's probobly been covered, but I tried searching and didnt get anything. The info on the truck is in my sig. Thanks for any into. I was reading on here some guys running mid-hi 15's with Z71's.

Also another ?. I read that tow/haul mode would probobly cause a slower time, because it shifts earlier, which I agree, I noticed when I was Toying around. I was wondering about traction control, and whether or not to use it if I did go to the track. I dont know how it works, I figured it would reduce the amount of power to the wheels for traction, but I have no clue how it works. Sounds kinda like a dumb question. I was wondering because traction is a big factor in drag racing.

Yeah its a short bed. I was doing some reading about traction control, I guess it gets help from the brakes, so thats a no-go.

The tires are pretty nice, I did some reading on them too, lots of good reviews, good wet and dry traction. I can still roast them from a stop though. Only thing I dont like is they pick up rocks pretty good.

I was thinking about takeing it to the track this Friday, Fridays are street legal drags, mostly ricers camaros and mustangs. Then a few muscle cars running 10's.

Looks like your rig is 2WD other wise I would say pop it into 4-hi at the track and do a 4wheel launch which would give you a jump on the rustangs and camaros before they reel you in. There's a thread in this forum with a guy who has a monster 2500hd with an 8.1/Ally and he does 4 hi launches and really gets a good jump.

Otherwise I would say turn traction control off and ease into the pedal then jump on it.

Let us know what kind of launch technique you used when you go and report what worked best for you.

15.6 - 16.1

Is it shortbed?  If so, closer to the 15's.

I'd say definatly closer to low 15s. I've seen OBS 4.3s run 16.9 and 17.1, and I know that a reg cab 5.3 is gonna be more than a sec quicker.

All stepsides are shortbed btw.

The key is finding the best rpm to launch at. I always heard school of those was to hold your brake down then gas up as much as you can before your tires start to spin. When the light turns come off the brakes and floor it.

Let us know how you do.

Well I didnt have time Yesterday, and today I had my 1 weekend a month drill for the reserves. Thurdays are test and tune, Fridays are street legals, and Saturday's are bracket racing. I'll probobly have to wait until this coming Thursday or Friday.

Other than that, I was at a stoplight Thursday and when the light turned green I had one of them "both people slowly giving it more and more gas trying to get ahead of the other" situations with a little 2 door civic with a coffee can muffler and tinted windows. After about 4 seconds of both of us giving it more gas I just mashed it and left him. That was my truck excitement of this week.
