transmission noise

i have a 2006 silverdo 5sp 4.3.. love the truck great decent power for a 6.. my problem is when i take the truck out of gear there is a whining noise kinda of like a gear whine. i have heard i couple others that have done this .. also when i am acceralting the noise is there but only until i get up to about 1500-1600 rpm then there is no noise what so ever .. is this normal with the 5sp . what about shifting if i dont takw my foot completeing of the gas it is a rough shift.. i am kinda used to cars, mustangs, camaro, one civics that dotn make this sound .. please help.. i know i have have a warnnty since i only have 6k on the truck but i want real world advice from people for drive, abuse, and hook these trucks up on a daily basis .. i know i fair bit about truck and cars so this is like am stumped or stupid just want feedback from other chevy owners

Are you sure the whining noise is coming out of the transmission, not the rear end? Axle gear whine is more common. It can happen while differential is loaded only, or unloaded only, usually in 40-50 MPH speed range.

If you think it is tthe transmission, does it whine in all gears, or only in certain ones?

Could be the Transfer Case going kablooey on ya, might want to check to make sure you got fluid in there.

My 91 S-10 with the 4.3 and 5 speed always had what I call " gear whine" but, was always considered normal. I think it had a Muncie tranny ? Not sure....

just took it back to the dealship. the tech adv that this is in fact normal and it is because the tranny is build stonger and uses such thin oil .. everything from the syncro's to the front input shaft is stonger ..

so TEE you are right and thanks guys.. now it you could help with the aftermarket stereo problems with wire harness
