Loss of Power While Driving

Hello everyone (since I'm new here)!

I recently started my truck to head home and the engine lost power while driving. I lost electrical too momentarily(radio reset). I was able to shift into N and restart the engine. This happened 3 times on that 20 mile trip. I've driven about 100 miles since without incident until today. When I started up this morning, it started but voltage was low and it took anout 30 secs for the idle to get up to normal. During my 10 mile drive to work, I noticed voltage was a little high initially (14+) until the truck warmed up. Then everything was fine.

What's going on? Is my alternator going? That's my guess... Thanks for any suggestions.

I've got a Optima Redtop in there. It's been in there for about 2+ years. Could be....

Anyone else? What should I check?

ck the red wires off of the pos post to the fuse box and make sure they are not chaffing on the fender/something else and have worn thru...

my volts run at 13.5-14.5 most of the time...

sounds like loose wires or you have crud built up on the terminals

Pull the positive cable and seperate the two lugs, inside one there will be a smaller lug, you will have to pry it out. Clean the whole works with baking soda or coke, get some dielectric greese when you put it all back together. Make sure it is clean, if even a little is left over, then it will recorrode and you will have the smae problems. I would also get a new bolt, these can be had at an auto parts store for a few dollars.

I haven't been back here since my last post, but all of you were right. I went home after my last post and and decided that something was loose and/or corroded. I pulled off and cleaned every connection from the battery back until I hit the firewall. The biggest cupprit was the positive connection on the battery. It looked fine until I took it off and then saw how caked it was. That did it and I proved it by pulling my Jeep on the trailer over 300 miles this past weekend without issue.

I agree, this sounds like a loose or dirty connection in the battery or alternator feed circuit confusing the computer and voltage regulator. I doubt if it is the battery itself. should be a cheap fix.
