How to prep a NEW truck for Winter?

Just got a new 07 Silverado, Dark blue Metallic. What do you guy recommend for getting it ready for a NY winter. I never used any sealants before, just Collinite 476 wax. Any comments??

PS--Can someone also explain why use a polish or sealant before waxing??--I always just used WAX.

Polishes contain abrasives to correct minor to severe paint imperfections. If you care for your rig properly it shouldn't need a polish more than 2-3 times a year at the most.

 

Collonite is a pretty durable wax, you should be fine with a couple coats here and there throughout the winter. A good sealant might last longer depending on the conditions. If you layer a sealant before you apply #476 you'll have a pretty durable finish. I don't know if it contains any cleaners, but if it does it will strip off the coat(s) of sealant underneath it.

I spend a lot of the winter in upstate NY in Old Forge, use a synthetic wax, it will even last thru an upstate NY winter

Zaino or Rejex, and even Duragloss holds up pretty well. As said above Collonite for a wax holds up pretty well, just not as long as a true synthetic.
