Navigation and Lux Upgrade

I just bought what was supposed to be a lux touch-screen navigation HU. After completing the installation according to the great instructions found here, I hear door chimes but no sound comes out of the radio. I read a post about a guy with a Denali who had the same problem...rear headphone jacks work but no sound from speakers. The funny thing is that when I press VOL+ and VOL- there is no indication on the screen that I'm even doing anything. Does this seem indicative of a non-lux HU or some other problem? I don't think the amp is bad because the chimes work. Oh, by the way, my HU does not have "Spacious" and "Driver" like so many of you have mentioned. I just have "EQ1" "EQ2" "EQ3" "EQ4" and "Custom."

My problem now is that I don't know if I have a bad amp, bad HU, or they are not compatible with each other. I thought the working chimes indicated the amp was good but don't know if that's true. My amp is an upgraded lux amp. I have OnStar but that too is not functioning now.

If any of you guys with navigation could look in your music settings and tell me what the lux says and what the non-lux says at the bottom (the buttons), I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Lux amp.

my nav unit doesn't have any indication of volume going up or down either. i wish it did. anyway, have you tried disconnecting the connector located under the cup holder and reconnecting it? it's the connector with a rotating white arm. when i added a ipod interface, i was getting bunch of distored sound and i disconnected this connector and reconnected it, and now the sound is back to normal. i don't know if this will help but it's pretty simple and i think it's worth a try. hope this helps.

Yeah I know what you are referring to. Did you disconnect this while the stereo was on or while the car was off?

My amp is from an H2 and I've heard they go bad more often than the others. Does anyone know if the bad H2 amps still chime when the key is in? If the bad amps don't chime, I would think my amp is good.

Tried that, no luck. I'm going to put my non-lux amp in and see if that works. That way I can at least figure out if the HU is lux, non-lux, or non-functional.

It isn't that easy to just SWAP amps. Each one is wired COMPLETELY different. The same PLUGS work, but the wiring configuration on the plugs are way different. From your description of EQ settings, you don't have a lux amp.

I do have the lux amp and I did swap all the little pins in the amp connectors according to the wiring diagrams. Are you saying that the nav will recognize what amp it is connected to and change those EQ buttons? Or did you mean to say that from my description of the buttons, that I don't have the lux nav?

yes, That is my understanding. When the HU recognizes the amp..but I could be wrong.

the Lux will show Normal, Driver, Rear, and Spacious for EQs. If it doesn't show that, then it won't be lux.

What makes you think you have (or don't have) the lux amp?

Did you check your codes?

What did the ORIGINAL amp look like? The STD amp is square..the Lux amp isn't.

I know my truck came with the premium amp. I removed it and put in the lux amp. I've seen pictures of the amps and I know the new one is lux. Also the model number is a lux amp.

This happened to me when the dealer replaced my wife's radio in her Sierra a few weeks ago, they installed the new radio and brought it around for us to take, but the radio would come on but no sound. They had to program the new radio with the truck's VIN number for it to play, it's part of the new style theft lock system. They just slammed it in and told us it was ready.

If you email me I can send you the info buliten from GM on the topic. I'm not sure how much they would charge you to do this, but my guess is in the $50-$60 range, you need a Tech 2 scan tool to do the programming so you have to go to a dealer or find a shop that has one.

Well I figured out that my nav was a non-lux. I put a lux nav in and it works fine now. Thanks for your help, guys. If this helps anyone in the future, the lux has the Driver, Normal, Spacious, Rear buttons and the non-lux simply has the 4 EQ buttons.
