Back up Lights

I am looking to ad some back up lights to my truck and wondering if anyone has done this or if anyone has any good ideas. Like good locations to put them, best way to wire, is it best to wire them in so when you put the truck in reverse or to have a switch. Any ideas/ suggestions/ kind of lights would be appreciated.

I had a local shop put a set of KC's out near the corners at the ends of the bumper. They're controlled independently of the reverse lights via a switch.

I wired some cheapy fog/driving lights to the auxillary power source on the trailer plug (the one mentioned above) therre was a switch on that, but I also wired them with the back up light circuit on the trailer plug too. In short there is a switch in the bed that when turned on illuminates the trucks revers light and the new lights, powered from the trailer auxillary power. When the truck is put in reverse the smae lights come on regardless of switch position. No relays or Diodes were used.

I added a single rectangular driving light to the right of the factory hitch. ( I welded a tab on the hitch and the light sits up tight to the bottom of the hitch and just to the right of the receiver). I used a relay from the factory backup lights to switch power to this light (55 watt)and took a power source from the 7 pin connector for trailer wiring.

I mounted the relay inside a plastic electronics 'project box" located inside the frame at the back, and put a external swith in case I wanted to turn it off.I have also swapped out the standard backup lights with halogen 35 watt bulbs. All this after I almost ran over the paperboy last winter!

Uuumm OK, but how does that help when some one behind you has his brights on and you need to convince him to turn them down

well 1 i turn my strobs on that are police issue. I get them cause i work for the state and i got permits for them. So it scares them and makes them turn it off hehe

You have a big peadl to the right of the small pedal on the left. Press it to the floor, watch as guy with brights on drivs off road into ditch.

Years ago, a buddy wired his backups to a switch. When someone was following too close or with hi beams on, he would lightly hold the brake lights on while switching the backups on. Lots of interesting reactions!
