Throttle body spacer and KnN Filter

Your truck is fuel injected. Putting something in that will disturb the air flow to make it "swirl" and slow down will do nothing for you.

 

Those things are just expensive paper weights.

 

Get a custom tune for your truck if you want performance.

My brother put one in his 2000 4.3L v6 S10...total waste of money. The thing runs like s**t...makes nice whistle sounds when you punch it, but thats about it.

I have to agree with the others...........total waste of time and money.........even if they do give a little extra power........its just about unmeasurable............I think you just get a little extra noise and you 'think' you have more power............kinda like after you wash your truck t seems to run better and ride smoother.........

looking at the post saying that it is a waste of money, i looked at the trucks it says you own under your name. the TBS tend to have an obvious increase in power in older GM trucks that utilized the cheap-production TBI, throttle body fuel injection, where as the newer trucks, around 1999 and up, used different fuel injection methods. i plan on gettin TBS for my 1991 TBI, ive heard on the older trucks the increase in power is OBVIOUS, not just a "you think you have better performance because it is installed and you believe you have it." from buddies with these, the power increase can be felt in your ass when you step on it.

 

in summary, the effect is dependent on your truck, more specifically, the type of fuel injection it uses

Throttle body spacers are a waste of money... and i know the airraid one whistles which can get pretty annoying after a while. Just get the intake and forget about the spacer.

really, i installed a K&N intake and it is getting about the same gas mileage, using just the trip odometer alone on a recent trip, went close to 450 miles on one tank with 4 adults in the truck...that was about the same when we took the truck on its first trip almost 2 years ago. (about 17 MPG)

I got almost 500mpg when I was driving between N.Cali to S.Cali. The only thing I had done at the time was install the K&N air filter kit. I would have really loved to have seen how much more I could have gotten with my tonneau cover (snuglid F2).

 

I'm glad this question was asked though because I was giving it thought (about buying a TBS).

I installed my TBSPACER along with Mass Air flow sensor and programmer all about the same time. I went from getting about 15 mpgs in the city to almost 18 with a light foot. But as suggested above tbs are useless on the 5.3 but also read something that it did wonders on the 6.0 liter...

 

Anyone try doing those 3 on a 5.3 to see if there is any increase in performance? TBS, Mass airflow, and tune?

I was in a truck shop the other day and I started asking about the TBS. After reading the post here I had explained that I have already heard the both sides of the arguement and just wanted his honest opinion.

 

I was told that they don't increase performance but the do help with gas mileage in the mid-range 40-50mhp. The guy told me that its misleading because performance is stated on the box.

 

I'm curious in giving it a run, so if any of you who have this paper weight sitting around for a 2003 4.8L 1500 and want to give it away for free, I'll pay for shipping.
