windshield wiper problem

My windshield wipers on the truck I just bought for errands/hauling stuff, etc don't work. I checked the fuses but they seem to be ok...the gauges and cruise control work fine too.

The thread below helps, but I don't know if the recall applies to earlier models, if not I assume I'll need to replace the wiper motor? It makes a humming type noise when I try to turn them on, but nothing happens other than the faint noise.

1996 wiper problem

If the recall doesn't apply for my truck (my guess is that it won't)

Is this the first thing I should try?

Thanks in advance

I think the recall also applies to your truck to, I had it fixed on my 1995. I think any GM dealership will do it for you free of charge, or you can use that website above and do-it-yourself.

My 92 chevy had the same problem and all it was on mine was the little motor that runs the wipers burnt out. You can get it replaced for about 100 dollars canadian or so. Sometimes it would work and sometimes It wouldn't, I used to just give it a tap and it would work for awhile. I have a 98 GMC now and it does it once in awhile also but not as often. Its just a junky part I guess. The motor is located on the firewall near the brake fluid resevoir.

I actually wouldn't use that second link of yours, but rather would (at the joints they show) simply re-solder them. They're originally a cold solder joint, and a cold solder is much more prone to failure than a hot solder.

Thanks for the input. It will be hot solder fixfirst, then if that doesn't work, I'll likely try the motor.

Appreciate it!

Well...If neither work...I've still got the motor out of my '92...You're welcome to it, see if it takes the "fix". :flag:

I may wind up taking you up on that, and of course I would buy you a beer or the beverage of your choice.

Jason,

The recall doesn't apply to your truck,If it did apply it would have showed up when I tried to run your VIN with GM.

No beer needed (I always have plenty). I need to get rid of that and a bunch of other crap that's taking up space in my garage.

Just let me know.
