Dual Batteries

Hi all,

I have an 02 Sierra 2500HD with dual batteries. From looking around this forum I was able to figure out the set up is non-isolated (code TP2). I've been having some sluggish starts lately and it looks like one of the batteries is gone. They're the original batteries with the "green eye" and one is green and one is dark.

My questions are:

Can I just disconnect the bad battery for now and run off of one?

Do I need to replace both batteries?

Thanks

Well, if you're having sluggish starts I would say that it wouldn't hurt to replace the bad battery (low voltage wrecks havoc on electrical systems) not to mention the starter wear. You should be able to run off one battery for now (since that's basically what you're doing now anyway) actually unhooking the bad battery may make your starts less sluggish, because if that battery isn't holding a charge, then in theory it could be stealing juice out of your good battery also. It wouldn't be a bad idea to replace both batteries at once, because if you don't then you're just going to have to replace the one that's currently good eventually also, but it's not a must do thing.
