93 Hood latch problem

I did a search but I couldn't come up with this problem, though I thinkit is common on this body style. I remember my dad's 88 doing it. When you pull the hood 'handle' under the dash, it won't open unless someone is giving the driver's side part of the hood (close to the grille) a solid bang with their fist. At least on mine, it takes two people to open it as banging on the hood anywhere within reach from the cab won't pop it open.

 

Probably a latch adjustment is needed, or is there something else that is an easy fix?

My '92 was like that from time to time. Castrol 10W-40 and a lot of working it into the thing helped quite a bit.

Same thing happened to my '95. Always needed a good thwack right in the middle. Solved it by dousing the latch mechanism with silicone spray lube--works perfectly now.

Yeah, I've had this problem with many late-model GM vehicles. A good spray-down with some type of lubricant usually takes care of it (or helps alot).

The right way to fix it is pull the lever and with years of practice, training and finesse one quick pound/tap on the front center of the hood...

 

... you wouldn't believe how perky that hood makes you feel when it jumps up into your hand.
