2002 2500HD with power/heated mirrors. Both mirrors have seperated from the lower mounting stem.It appears there is a round nut or compression fitting that holds the upper and lower pieces togetherinside the housing but it's impossible to get to.Anybody else have this trouble??Looking to see if the front of the mirror can be removed.Iam not too impressed with tape holding my mirrors together, lots of ford fans at my work lovin this! Anybody have some advice on a repair?

I'm not sure about your mirrors, but I wouldn't let the F**d fans get to you.

They have their own problems :smash::D

:D here's to hoping you get a real answer :P

On a more serious note, mabe a glass shop may be able to help you, or look at this as an opportunity to upgrade your mirrors.

While in your case it is the outside mirrors that are held together with tape, your Ford pals are duct taping their 6.0 Powerjokes so they stay together in one piece.

It is reasonably easy to fix once you know how.

Basically, there is a post with a tension collar around it holding it on. There is a small groove at the top of the post that is supposed to keep is on. Mine fell off after a car wash attendant pushed the mirror in without being asked

You need to pull the glass off. Turn it all the way in and reach behind the glass and remove a few of the clips on the ring holding it on. Once you get the glass out you will see the problem. I used a large socket on top of the collar and a piece of wood under the mirror and I used a C-Clamp to push the collar back on. In my case, the wires for the mirror came out the center of the post so I carefully pinched the wires under the socket to try and minimize wire damage. It has worked for several years now.

Good Luck.
