I have a 89 K3500 with the 454 and I'm trying to change out the distributor. That think is locked in there tight and I can't get it to come out. I can't get a wrench in there to turn it and I can't get any leverage. Any ideas on geting it out?

If you've got the retainer unbolted then it should lift out with a bit of persuasion (give it a good yank). If you don't have it unbolted you're going to need a short socket and a universal, then about 6 inches of extension and that should take care of ya.

the retainer is unbolted and I've tried prying with what I can reach back there... and I've tried tap on it firmly to break it loose... it's wedged in their pretty good.

It's just the clip that keeps the oil pump shaft attached to the bottom of the distributor. Pull/yank really hard and it'll come out, unless this engine has been sitting w/no oil in it...but it doesn't sound like that's the case. It should come out. Maybe spray some penetrating oil around the base to try to loosen anything that's under there, but a good hard yank usually does it.
