Ok at 100,000 I plan on replacing all the fluids in the truck....but I need a little more info on how a few things are done.....

For the rear diff on my 01 2500 HD do I have to pull the cover to drain or is there a drain plug I'm missing. I see the plug on the side of the housing but it looks to me like a fill plug, not a drain plug. Or should I just pull the housing and clean out this inside? I have the G80, so I guess I need the friction additive along with the synthetic fluid I plan to use?

I also need the same info for the front diff.

Now for the power steering and the brakes, I was just going to siphon out as much as I could with a kitchen baster and then top off with fresh fluids, may perform this a few times to let the fluid mix. Is this sufficient, or should I bleed the brakes after replacing the fluid?

Also for the transmission, I had it flushed by GM at 50,000 and I was going to do this again at 100,000. If I ask will they be able to flush and refill with synthetic fluid? Or will I not benefit from the synthetic at such a high mileage?

I have a Hayes manual, but these are the differences in the manual and my truck, so I'm not sure what to do on these few items.

Thanks in advance for all your help...

Brad

The front and rear diffs have drain plugs,on newer trucks (around 2005 to current)the rear diffs don't have drain plugs,it's always best to remove the rear diff cover to get a good look at the inside and check it for any type of damage.

You should not have any problems changing to syntetic trans fluid if the trans is in very good conditions,I would do it now and also change the filter as the brake in materials will restrict the filter.

The ps will be ok to siphon, start the engine and turn the weel back and forth severall times then changethe fluid again.

As far as the brake fluid,it should be change every 2 years, you can siphon the fluid but this will not get all the fluid out of the system, and DO NOT use the same siphon tool that you used on the ps fluid,it can contaminate the brake system and ruin the ABS valve, calipers, master cylinder, the whole brake system!.It's best to flush it with a brake flush machine or the old fashion way, manualy bleed the system.

You may want to consider investing in a pressue brake bleeder so you can properly bleed the brakes alone. You can get a Motil bleeder for around $50 and you should fully bleed the system every 2 yrs. Brake fluid absorbs moisture so this maintenance is time based and not related to mileage.

A tip for you, when filling the front and rear diffs, loosen the fill plug first to be sure you can get it off before draining the fluid and finding yourself screwed if the fill plugs are messed up.

Ok so I guess I need to bleed the brakes.....no problem...

Now for the front and rear diff's, could someone guide me toward the drain and fill plugs for my specific application. As I stated earlier, I can see a plug on the rear diff, but it looks to be in a position to be the fill plug. Anyone have pics or a better description of what I should be looking for?

Also, for the rear, am I going to need the friction additive for the g80 locker?

Thanks again,

Brad
