Advertising/Adjustments charge?

Priced out a 2007 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab SLE1 today for ordering. Dealer mentioned he has to add 2% on for Advertising/Adjustment, as this is what GM charges them to advertise the truck. I'm located in the "Philadelphia" sales area, so we get the 2% where some more rural areas are at only 1%. Have other folks paid this on their factory orders? He's willing to go 500 over invoice, but he's including the 2% in the invoice price.

Thanks!

Most all try to do it, it's free $$$ to the dealer. They are allowed too charge it but don't have to. Tell the salesman to sit on it.

Complete BS. No need to pay that charge. You should be able to get the truck at invoice, or below if you know how to play the game. I don't pay doc fees, prep fees or any of the other nonsense either.

I never paid this mark-up on mine. If PA wants to play that game, there are six or seven other east coast states that follow CARB emissions standards instead of federal. Not hard to find out. I think MD may be one of them, so look around. I don't know about NJ and I am almost positive DE is federal.

The way I see it, if you're ordering the truck (as opposed to buying it off the lot), what kind of advertising could they be doing to sell you the truck?

(Besides advertising that they're in the market to rip ya off ?!)

Tell them you expect a 2% markdown for buying the truck from them instead of the dealer down the road. :driving:

A local new car dealer (they sell 4 different foreign brands) puts a "second sticker" on every new car on the lot regarless of how low the MSRP is. The sticker shows detailed add-on charges that include advertising, flooring costs, detailing, and even the gas they put in the tank! Most of these charges add about $1250 to the car before they get to the "market adjustment". There is even a line that specifically states "Additional Dealer Profit"

Got to give them credit for being up front about their second sticker but I just can't see how a stealership can be that stupid. But then again, I can't imagine buyers being that stupid for paying the full price. But many do.

Tell him to stick his 2% in his a@#. Do what I do. Instead of telling them you're not sure if you want to buy a truck, I tell them "by the end of the week, I'm gonna be in a new truck, whether it's from you or the chevy dealer down the street, I don't care". I just got a new 07 silverado, stickered at 34,044, at 100 dollars above invoice, plus 500 off for presidents day, plus 1000 off for GM loyal dicount card, I came in at under 30k for the truck. DO NOT agree to pay 2% of anything.

Yeah, what Slimjim said. They need you to buy a truck, you dont need to buy a truck, you want to. Thats were you throw your weight around, because there's always another Chevy dealer 20 minutes away. Its simple, do what Slimjim said about the 2% and the ''by the end of the week'' part. When you find the truck you want, drop the sticker 4-5 grand and say thats all Im willing to pay. Its pretty simple, dealers need you to buy a vehicle. With that, you have the bargaining power.

Dealer wanted $20k for mine used, I told them 15k tax and title and I'll start signing papers, or Im rolling to the next dealer. I started signing papers.

You guys that are getting these trucks for invoice or under are extremely lucky. Maybe my problem is that I only buy GMC's. I search the GM website for the truck I'm interested in, then go to Kelly Blue book and get the invoice price, figure out all the rebates then feel like I am fairly armed to make a good deal. I also am not loyal to any dealer. The last deal I made was two months ago on a 06 GMC Z71 SLE 1 very well optioned out and got it for $ 26,600.00 out the door. That includes the CA. tax and lic.. I had to work real hard at getting this for $ 250 over their supposed cost. Every dealer I have gone to out here is willing to let you walk out the door, it's like they don't have to sell you anything. Maybe people out here are just to willing to pay what ever they ask. It's very frustrating as I have read all your posts on how to get these trucks cheaper but that just doesn't seem to be the case here in sunny northern Ca.. Another hash mark in my reasons to move (many) out of this state box.

GM requires all new vehicles are filled on delivery and is part of the delivery/prep charge paid by GM to its dealers. No way should you have to pay for the gas.

Sorry folks.....................No matter how the dealer flip flops the numbers YOU PAY

the advertising fee no matter if your buying a Silverado or a camry !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All auto mfrs. charge this fee !!!!!!!!!! Along with DOC fees and sometimes a addl.

dealer markup fee (ADM).

Now certain programs....ie: GM family retiree, supplier, Ford x etc. plans, and Chrysler

employees don't pay advertising fees..............On a GM deal the DOC fee is now limited

to $75 bucks. Not sure what the others do nowadays.

But for the average buyer off the street......YOU PAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe he's talking about a 2% charge above sticker. Of course advertising fees are figured into the price of a vehichle, but I believe we're talking about something different here.

What happens if you buy through Cosco or one of those types of places? They buy based on fleet pricing, which should not include advertising. The ad mark-up is for local dealers' advertising, not the national ads you see on TV, etc.'

GUYS..........Ask to see the REAL invoice on any GM vehicle...............

Note the line item advertising fee. Also plainly printed will be the employee price and the

GM supplier price. (The dealer will usually black out the holdback figure---Which belongs

to the dealer anyhoo!)

It is usually added as a line item in the F&I office....................

Along with the DOC fees and don't forget the added SET fees toymota wacks ya with!

Again some shady dealers (lots here in Fla.) have the dreaded ADM (addl. dealer markup)

sticker right next to the mfr mulroney sticker..........................

Still think I am incorrect?

Stop over to http://www.edmunds.com Go to the forums and the smart shopper thread

and ask all the salesfolks over there............They will fill ya in !
