I just wanted to let everyone know that adding the Driver Information Center (DIC) to your 2007 SLE is a snap.

I ordered the part from gmpartsdirect.com. The install took 5 minutes.

Directions (I would have taken photos but it's really unnecessary as this is so simple.)

*******************************************************************************

1. Turn the truck off.

2. Pull the old section of dash (on the left of the wheel) off by hand.

3. Remove the light controls (simple plastic clips).

4. Remove the extra cable clipped into the piece of dash (it's already there just not being used...YET!

5. Install the light controls into the new piece of dash (yes it comes with the new piece of dash, new vent and the switch)

6. Plug the previously non used wire into the new switch.

7. Put the new dash plate back into place by hand.

8. Turn on the truck! You're done!

This mod gives you access to fuel mileage, range, gallons used, V8/V4 mode notification, tire pressures, tire sensor learning, key fob learning, chime volume, entry and exit lighting schemes, lock and unlock schemes (including automatic lock/unlock), unit and language choices, engine hours and probably more that I have forgotten already.

The beauty of all of this is the cost - $100.22 shipped.

Thanks, Daddy, for posting this. I know your post is about 4 years old now but I see the thread is alive. I wanted to post to thank you and also add supporting input that it works and what it worked on.

I ordered the part 19159438 as listed throughout the thread and replaced the panel (instead of cutting a hole in the original panel and installing just the switch.

I have a 2010 GMC 1500 Sierra base model (V6, no power windows or locks, not much frills at all). But since the pigtail was there (I checked two nights ago when I read this post by Daddy and the resulting thread) I got the DIC switch/panel. I knew the truck had TPMS 'cause it had a way to reset it, and I know it has a thermometer 'cause it warns me of ice when it's cold...so I thought I'd add it.

The local dealership sold it to me for 85 bucks plus tax because a buddy of mine has an account there. Current price would have been 104.65 for 'regular' people with no account. $119 and change from another dealership, so prices vary. I went to the dealership today and paid for the parts and then drove to the showroom area and got the sales guy who sold the truck to me to come out. He watched while I installed the panel. Took less than 2 minutes even with an audience. Then the guy played with it and reset the TPMS...so I got to ride around to service and let them reset that...don't reset the TPMS unless you are ready to have the vehicle relearn tire positions.

So, for 85 bucks plus tax I got these features:

Timer, four wheel tire pressure displayed (in pairs Front/Rear), gallons fuel used, estimated range on current fuel, average fuel economy, ability to change the exit lighting, approach lighting, plus what I already had with odometer, tripmeter, and tranny temp.

I was disappointed that there was no way to learn a remote (maybe a flash update of the BCU or whatever...or maybe the receiver is physically not included in the truck). No display of the outside temp (disappointing because it can tell me it might freeze...there's a temp sensor on it). No compass...not a big deal.

I'm going to search for (and post if I don't find it) more info on expanding the capabilities of the truck with tweaks/mods to get some of the cool features from the computer (like remotes (and adding power windows/locks, of course, and temp).

Thanks for all who helped make this a mod that was easy to do confidently.

I ordered a panel and switch from ebay on Feb. 9th, got an e-mail saying it was shipped on the 11th. It was $81.00 US / $80.13 CDN plus $9.91 US / $9.80 CDN for shipping. It will be coming from Florida to Ontario, Canada. I had some extra funds just sitting in my Pay Pal account, so I used them up. It worked out that had to pay about $66.00 CDN for it. I also read in another thread about the GMC Sierra Wheel House Liners Part# 19166677. I called the dealer where I bought the truck to see if the had any. They did, so a buddy of mine who works there got them for me at his cost $75.00 for the pair, plus tax. Another score. I'll be going after the steering wheel mod next.

I did my D.I.C. mod today, got the part from a dealer for $100 including tax, took about 10 min to do the mod, works great, it's great to see the fuel range and mpg's. Thanks Daddy for discovering this.

Ordered my DIC on March 19 from GMpartsdirect for $80 shipped and it arrived yesterday. Put it in this afternoon took about 10 mins. Lots of info i was missing out on. Thanks to Daddy for this post, my truck feels more complete now.

embarassed to say that i read this thread when i first got my truck (september of 2008) .... and it took until last week for me to finally come back on this forum since the novelty of the new truck wore away long ago.

well last week i ordered the DIC panel, it took 5 days and was in my hands and 30 seconds later and installed.... damn do i wish i did that alot sooner.

sucked to see 32,000 miles later and 2550 gallons of fuel ... it said my avg mpg since i've owned the truck is 13.0mpg, ouchies

seeing V4 and V8 mode is cool... ride home today, i can't believe how hard it is to keep in v4 mode! too sensitive

I'll bump this again, certainly this can't be difficult, it appears the sensors are there, anyone with ideas?

I'll echo the question that has come up in the last few months: How can I get the outside temp to display?

Truck is a 4.8 Sierra 1500 Nevada Edition. Displays everything, tire pressure etc.. but not outside temp and compass.

It does sense the cold with the "Ice Road Possible" display. Is there a way to program or to add another sensor?

Any real tech-heads out there? I can understand why a compass readout might not be available (mounted in the mirror) but temp should be there somewhere.

I just spent 3hrs looking for this DIC harness and cannot find it. Truck is 2009 GMC w/t reg cab long bed ex u-haul rental. A buddy of mine that did this mod cannot find it either. What plug or component does this go to BCM maybe? Anyone got a wiring diagram, plug and pin info?

Thanks that really helped!! I took out the instrument panel cluster and the connector has open slots on pins 2, 16, and 19. I guess I am the first person to not have the harness installed.
