Excellent mod.

I found this thread yesterday, immediately called a dealer which didn't have it in stock.

I then called another one and they had one left.

Installed in 3 minutes and couldn't have asked for a simpler mod.

Thanks!

well.. I'm here to res. it.

how to install this on your premium dash truck that does not have a DIC..

first, dash w/o dic

take it off, this is best accomplished by prying with a flathead screwdriver (smaller one) with electrical tape wrapped around the blade so you don't scratch anything, or a nylon part removal tool if you are so lucky to have one.

^ Part's off, it's held in with 1 clip on the left where the dic goes, nothing where the vents are, then 7 clips (3 sets of 2 then 1 on the farthest end) on the long flat part.

note the wire harness.. how dare they.. you were a $16 part from having this functionality..

Now, unhook the wire harness, set this piece aside, and grab your assembled parts you ordered..

hook it up and reverse.

and BEHOLD!

The part number you need fort this is 15947841 (switches) and 25807745 for the bezel in silver. Woodgrain? can't help you.

Price was about $100. Install time was literally 4 or 5 minutes.

Good job, James!!!

Now,everybody can have a DIC!!!

I just ordered one of the DIC from chevy parts to install on dads truck and Ive gotta say its one of the best and cheapest mods ever. I think Gm should make these standard on all trucks.

That's how the options game is played. The interior package is $500 and if you want a DIC then you have to buy the mirror, climate controls, etc. I personally have no use for the auto climate control (had it on our audi, hated it). The seats are nice but not necessary. Then they get to bring in a few vehicles that have a DIC and you pay a premium for those over the ones that don't have a DIC. I wanted a factory DIC but couldn't getone in the color or other options i required so i'll have my DIC added after the fact :troll:

Ok since there is over 41 pages to look through and I went through 10 and gave up, one question:

Anyone done this on a 2007 GMC 1500 W/T?

Newer body-style.

Or knows if I should be able to do this upgrade on this model?

I'm gonna take a look for this connector tomorow or the next day.

After this it will be on to the fog lights!

Sorry in advance if it offends any of you that I didn't take the time to click through 41 pages.

If you read the first 10 pages then you should know that if the connector is there then it will work. I'm pretty sure it should be there  . If no connector then this mod is a no go for you :P

AWESOME connector was there, plugged into a blank spot on the panel itself. Went to the dealer they will have a DIC panel there tomorow.

I don't have to actually pick it up if I find something cheaper.

$122 here in British Columbia at the dealer, is that a rip, for people who've done this in Canada?

Parts guy claimed price went up used to be $100 or something showed me the book.

BTW Thanks daddy, you're #1 post proved the most useful. Also the one picture of the other side of the panel just so I knew how the panel was attached!

Now on to the fog lights!

Friday I picked up a Classic 2007 2500 HD.

I have been patiently waiting 'till I found the right one.

This has the digital display, but no controls in the steering wheel.

Looks like this is where they would be.

Does anyone one know is the wiring for the DIC in the column?

What else would be involved, should I try this mod w/ a used wheel?

P.S. I love the truck. It replaces a ford f150 4x2.

My 2010 work truck won't display the temperature like the one in the recent post. Too bad, I kind of miss it when it's going to 106 today.

    • Well, I received a message from the dealer...
    • The no sound problem is the audio amplifier. The audio amp has a heatsoak issue in some circuitry which causes it to miss the wakeup handhake. If it doesn't respond within a certain time parameter, then you get no sound. I brought it in and had the software update, but after further testing the tech made the call for a new audio amplifer. The software update I belive gives more time for the amp to respond, but if the amp is defective then you can still get no audio at times. After the update it went 12 days before no sound. After doing some research, apparently the fix is a new (updated) audio amplifer, the circuitry internally has been improved to better deal with heat. I had to wait 2 1/2 weeks because at the time, it was on backorder with no eta. Well the amp came in earlier this week. I had the amp and programming work done today. After picking it up I stopped at a few places, and whenever I started my truck, the audio was on instantly, so whatever they did it appears to work because it's never had sound that quickly......Hope this helps
    • Make sure the latch mechanism is properly greased. Look at the catch for fresh marks/scratches. And see if it has moved a little, too.
    • I have the 18" black mutilspoke wheels that came with my truck. I like them as they are very subdued and look good with the 295/70's    I am sure that the next set of wheels I get will be some after market all black wheels. Or maybe some AT4X wheels.
    • Interesting question which you partly answered in the word 'potentially'. I think that is going to be a 'point of reference' inquiry. What are the touchstones?    This will sound petty but it is the main source of end fighting in threads on this topic. Define a motors "Life". Think about the various arguments that have been entertained on these pages in that very argument.    I can only speak from my viewpoint. Engine "Life" in my world is defined by power cylinder integrity. For the majority of engines it is the bore/ring interface that quits first. Loss of seal. Oil consumption and loss of power. Most Pro motor builders would agree and there is a good deal of information on using "Leak Down" as a primary indicator of bore integrity. At home a compression test is more the thing. If we can agree on that then I think CC Jensen has done its homework and I'd find it valid.    Now by my own definition, Dizzy, wife's Ecotec 2.4 I-4 has been dead since about 80K miles. And yet we have logged over 200K miles more on it. "Life" and "Usefulness" are therefore independent.      I know a mature fella right now who has just hit 300K on a Mitsubishi 3A92 NA MPFI motor and has done compression test every 100K. It was 205 psi after break in and is now about 195 and still even. He uses shelf oil but good filters and adheres to a 3K mile OCI. He even do UOA's on each of them for the first 50K.      I also know a fleet mechanic with that same motor that gets 300 to 500 K out of them but the are oil using, wristpin sloppy, skirt slapping motors. He ran one with a piston pin so loose the piston was bouncing off the cylinder head for about 20K miles before he called TOD. Both of them claim success.
