drbob11 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Hey buddy.. on this particular post about adding the steering wheel controls where can i find the rest of the info? you just got the wheel from bone yard and took yours off and pluged the new one in? thanks... i have been reading and reading page after page and thot why not just ask you. Just did a practice run on my DIC. Pulled off the panel and switch, checked everything out, then replaced it. Will order the new part later today. Really looking forward to the upgrade. Daddy.............I LOVE YOU, MAN!!!! Thanks... I think. Kidding. I just ordered the redundant stereo controls for the steering wheel along with the new wheel shroud. Keep your eyes peeled for that one in the next couple of weeks. Once the parts arrive, I'll let you boys know. Daddy daddy! my eyes have been peeled! did u get the controls in?? Sorry, Yeah, I did. I had posted about this in the other thread that was actually about the steering wheel controls and forgot to come back here. My bad. Long story short, you have to get a whole new wheel or find the wiring harness that goes inside the wheel at a salvage yard. GM won't sell the harness alone so if you buy the switches and shroud, you still can't use them unless you find a harness somewhere. I said to hell with it and bought a full wheel ($99) from an '08 Avalanche that had been wrecked and used that. It was plug-and-play and works beautifully. If you can find a harness, I still have the switch module. Best bet, keep your eyes on eBay. Wish I had better news. Daddy
BigBlueLB756 Posted March 21, 2010 Posted March 21, 2010 Let's bump this topic back up to the front of the line. It's one of the Golden Oldies; a real blast from the past. Surely some newbies want to know how to get their DICs up and active.

Dale_K Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 I did this mod to my 2010 work truck and it worked like everybody says. I would like to see the outside air temp in the display. It looks like 2010 truck displays the temp in the DIC, not the mirror as on previous model years. The owner's manual says the compass and temp show in the DIC. My truck doesn't have the outside air temp sensor but it looks like the wiring harness is in place mounted on a support in front of the radiator (behind the grill). If I buy the sensor and plug it into the harness will I see the temperature on my DIC display?

One goes to the Automatic Climate Control, the Other is the one you want.

Every one looked exactly like my work truck even though not all the trucks on the lot were work trucks. There is a connector attached to the support in front of the radiator. Maybe all the trucks have a temp sensor and it's simply doesn't do anything DIC-wise on the work truck. I only saw the single connector on the trucks I looked at. My work truck doesn't have automatic climate controls. I'll take a picture of the connector in my truck and post it. Here's the connector. Can anybody confirm it's the ambient temp sensor? Is the little fitting the connector is plugged into the sensor itself?

My 08 has one on the diagonal support in front of the radiator (non auto climate control) and the 10 tahoe rental that we have has one on the right hand diagonal support of the radiator (auto climate control). I THOUGHT earlier (07-09) had two sensors if they had the temp display and auto climate. 10 MAY have changed to a single.
BigBlueLB756 Posted April 25, 2010 Posted April 25, 2010 That looks like the one on my 2009; even the bugguts look the same!

I have the Pure Pickup Dash (the top dash), and I am planning to do this upgrade in the near future. You may not believe me.. but my truck has the SLT style dash without the DIC buttons. I'm goin nuts without the functionality of it. I need the part # of the silver trim and the buttons to go with it. If it's already here apologies, but I've read like 12 pages of this and my eyes hurt heres a pic I just took:
darkfox1 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Update: I grabbed an ebay vin for a truck that had the dic with the silver interior trim, GMPD came back to me with a part number of 25807745 which is listed on their site for nearly $80! wtf look at the size of this piece of trim.. why on earth is it $80?? It's worth it though.. if I can be 100% sure that the wireharness and functionality is there in my truck for the dic, it's totally worth it. if we're not sure that it's wired.. then I'm not taking an $80 chance.
BigBlueLB756 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Part number for the replacement panel with the DIC switch installed is 19159438. Part number for just the DIC switch that you install in your existing panel after making the cut-out is 15947841. Prices depend on what GM Accessory parts supplier you choose. Shop around. Don't forget to include shipping charges. This mod's a winner!
